I will be genuinely gutted if we let Wimmer go - I genuinely think he is or definitely can be better than Verts. So much potential. Verts is getting slower and taking more risks with grabbing and fouling players and getting caught in possession. Not good.

Since Mitchell decided he wanted out, the rumours surrounding our transfer plans have been alarming to say the least!!!

Wimmer going nowhere. He's had some muscular issues so hasn't been able to play. Just signed a five-year contract!

which was definitely true, but Poch did say he was available. Hmm.

really don`t want to lose Wimmer he is arguably better that Vertonghon

I said it after Wimmer had to step in last season, after Vertonghen got injured, and I'll say it again. As classy as Vertonghen can appear, he's becoming more of a liability with every game that passes. I repeated that in the summer, after it was announced that refs had been instructed to really clamp down on grabbing/shirt pulling in the box. Then, low and behold, due to a truly shit referee, Vertonghen got away with yet another blatant act of stupidity, that could (and should) have resulted in a penalty.

There was none of that with Wimmer, he was just excellent, full stop!. Strong in the air, smart with the ball & did all the ugly stuff brilliantly, whilst Alderweireld just got on with his job. If idiots like me are sitting at home & seeing Vertonghen doing the same thing, over and over again, game after game, then it's only a matter of time before the multiple replays on MOTD etc are picked up by officials, then we'll pay for Vertonghen's actions. He's also starting to annoy me by appearing to need about 3 minutes of time, to make a decision as to what he's going to do when he's got the ball at his feet. He was constantly, and easily closed down yesterday, yet kept repeating the same dillydallying on the ball, resulting in multiple throws up along/level with the 18 yard box.

Sorry for the long post. I'm not alone in thinking Wimmer was treated pretty harshly when Poch openly stated to the world media, Vertonghen would walk straight back into the team when he'd recovered from his injury. As I said, Wimmer was excellent when he stepped in. I don't think we even lost when he played? It's supposed to be a squad game, yet what incentive is there for those squad players if they sit there patiently waiting for an opportunity to prove themselves, do precisely that, only to be told they'll be dropped as soon as the supposed squad player they replaced, returns from injury?

Maybe I'm just too old fashioned for today's game? I firmly believe Wimmer earned his shirt last season, and it should've been down to Vertonghen to wait for his chance to prove he deserves his shirt back. If he's good enough, he'll do precisely that. Sadly, in my opinion, Poch demonstrated that Vertonghen has a certain sense of entitlement, and will be selected regardless of form or circumstances. I actually wouldn't blame Wimmer if he's somewhat pissed off with how he's been treated.

The ball wasn't in play, therefore no direct free-kick/penalty can be awarded.

Also, Wimmer was class when Vertonghen was out last season and is surely going nowhere. The only way I can envisage there being a problem is if he threw his toys out of the pram when Verts went straight back in the side but surely a man of Wimmer's apparent demeanour would understand the situation and that his time will come. His main concern will be losing his place for Austria.

You're correct on the penalty, not sure why so many are overlooking this.

Wimmer has never been first choice for Austria though. Bizarre, as watching them at the Euros the other options were dire. Dragovic and Wimmer was by far the best partnership available to them. Strange how at both Spurs and Austria the management don't seem to rate him the way we Spurs fans do - I think he's fucking brilliant.

I totally agree with you here. I too prefer Wimmer > Vertonghen.

That said I think I'm also the only person on the planet who likes Mangala. His performances with Porto and France still resonate with me and he was actually coming on later in his City career. He definitely has some skills and if he could play in a setup where he gets sheltered better by his DMs I think Poch could further develop him to what everyone thought he was going to become.

That said I'd still also be Wimmer > Mangala, so it would be incredibly stupid and frustrating to replace one with the other.

This club, and Poch, is getting stranger by the day of even half of these rumours are to be believed.

Getting rid of Wimmer, for CCV, Pritchard for who knows, insisting on Onomah on the bench every game, no match time at all for Winks, the Zaha stories...

What is going on?

Is sticking youth players on the bench and not playing them really the strangest thing though when like 90% of European clubs do it?

Also you can't believe even half of the rumours the press puts out about any club, so it's really a non-starter anyways.

Why would any rumours be believed? People just 2+2 together and coming up with 5

Thank god. I'd be seriously concerned in our recruitment if we'd decide to ship out Son, Wimmer and N'Jie a year after signing them.

Unless they had decided to quit football and form a band. For me, that would be a fair reason.

I feel a little bad saying it, and i'm sure someone will jump in to defend them, the only one of that three leaving that i'd actually miss would be Wimmer. If the other two did move on, from what i've seen of them so far, it would be far less a dent to our squad than losing Mason or Carroll. Sure, they have their up sides and to judge them on one season would be mighty unfair, but if they all left tomorrow, Wimmer is the one i think we'd regret the most.

And it's the same for all clubs really. I could bring up plenty of articles from every club this year and the world would be completely upside down if half of them were true.

Not only that but if anyone looked at half the rumours about us that go on every single year it would be complete lunacy.

Maybe his ego became inflated and he thought he was in command of the club. I hear Dele refers to him as "Goalpost head" as well. Let's hope he doesn't disappear for good.
