Foyth can be like our Paulo Maldini. Let's not forget the amazing Maldini started playing regularly for AC Milan as a left-back. I don't think he moved to the middle in his mid-30s (I think). And there he stayed until his retirement, as one of the best defenders in history.

At least we're not putting unrealistic expectations on him

This makes the potential signing of Saliba - or any centre back - even more of a priority than any of us thought coming into the window.

I truly believe he'll be our starting RB this season.

And I'm all for it. He adds the height, skill, and steel we needed in that position. Who cares if he can't send in a Trippier cross when we've got Ndombele running down the right flank? I think Poch will opt for the fullbacks to play a more defensive role this season so that our midfielders (Ndombele, GLC/Ceballos?) can play more progressive and get forward. We were constantly susceptible on the counter with our fullbacks playing so high up the pitch this season anyways.

(I think his crossing will improve over the course of the season as well)

I agree. Was very impressed with his positioning, discipline and reading of the game from RB when I saw him last week. Didn't get beaten down that side.

Once he manages to become more composed and calm I think he'll be a solid RB

Although I agree defensive abilities is the most important for a RB, with the way we play you also need pace which is something Foyth lacks.

But recent itk has said we would be playing a new formation this season. I prefer defenders staying back and having actual wide players or attacking midfielders to be causing the damage further up the field. Takes the need away for a dedicated defensive mid if we have a bank of 4 back back, rather than 2 cb and a drop in midfielder

If the new formation is true then one of the points is that our full backs could be more defensive yes, but I think in the modern game you need attacking full backs that have good pace and very good stamina. Don't get me wrong I trust poch but this could be a gamble.

Depends who is in front of him I guess. If it’s sissoko then he can just concentrate on defending and let sissy do everything else down the entire side.

I want sissoko in the middle, not down the right, he proved last season he's a beast in the centre of the pitch.

Yup but surely it’ll be winks and ndombele in the middle? Can’t wait to see what kind of crazy formations poch comes up with tbh

If it is winks and ndombele then is moussa gonna start ahead of either Son or Moura on the right side? Poch currently has a fantastic array of options to choose from.

If you play Foyth right back especially against the lesser sides it affords the opposition the luxury of being able to defend narrower to snuff out our more dangerous players knowing Foyth won’t cause as much of a problem down that side. The only way I could see it working would be by playing Lucas in front of him or playing Sissoko as a false winger on the right side of the midfield.

Or play KWP (from start or as a sub) against bottom table clubs.
