He's starting to get that competitive edge at senior level with Villa. It's not always apparent as he has that languid style, but he's the type of player that the game looks like it comes easy to, and he'll always get a bit more time on the ball than normal players.

I hadn't really seen much of him before the Villa
Loan save England games and youth videos posted by the great guys in the youth threads.

From what I've seen I think he'll end up a being a top player.

I think maybe he'll end up being and expansive 6 rather than a box to box 8, but only once he improves the defensive side of this game.
But he could also end up being an 8. He could be either.

I think once he returns from the loan he'll be ready to stake a claim & he's got one of the best managers in the game to fine tune him.

Winks is a safer bet at the moment so I can see why Poch was giving him minutes in the am role rather than cm last season, but it's clear he is a cm.

I think though his upside is higher than Winks, he's got a little of Carrick in him with regards how naturally the game comes to him. He's more athletic than Carrick though he just seems to see the game & make it look easy like those types do.

I'd be shocked if he doesn't end up being a fantastic player.

I didn't mean to detract from Winks with that post, Winks is a great little player. Those two could even compliment each other in the future, that'd be fantastic, two high quality home grown cms with an affinity for the club.

I'd always thought he was a huge talent just lacking in that competitive edge. From that video evidence there if he keeps that streak up I have no doubt he will be a world class central midfielder.

It would be clever to do some squad planning for next summer. Sign Barkley in January or bring him in on a pre-contract and bring Onomah back into the squad. Listen to offers for Dembele who I think is sadly picking up too many injuries now and also replace Sissoko who I don't think would be necessary any more. Barkley I think will be more use further forward as competition for Eriksen but obviously could do a midfield job in a 3 man midfield like Alli.

Midfield options would be Dier, Wanyama, Winks, Onomah, Barkley, Alli. Looks strong to me.

As it stands at the moment all we'd need to do is look to upgrade on Nkoudou and that's pretty much it. Maybe a mega money offer for Zaha?

Sissoko has done a job this season for us but that does not mean that we can't replace him with a more talented player.
Give him a chance and he might improve quite a bit more, plus who's to say a replacement wiĺl end up a success

When I said miles behind winks I didn’t necessarily mean in terms of ability more profile.Onomah is a sub in the championship.Winks is now a full England international, trusted to play at the bernabeu and most likely off to the World Cup.If Onomah comes back he will have a lot of catching up to do.Where as before start season they were more or less on a par, well winks slightly ahead.
I am glad you explained yourself as I was about to blast you! I agree with the above sentiments

the new 532 means we could see Winks and Onomah playing together in the future. Looking forward to that.

That system is for big games.with everyone fit that 3 could consist of dembele wanyama dier winks sissoko eriksen dele Lamela .Im afraid Onomah would be way down the list.
We played it against Everton, Swansea and West Ham. Not just for big games - just implemented in a different way in big games. We used a 3 of Dier Sissoko Eriksen in those 3 matches. Perfect position for Onomah.

Dembele is on his last legs, Poch said himself he has been struggling to cope with the intensity of training sessions. We can't rely on him to play week in week out anymore and even when he does play he will not be at his best. It's only going to get worse for him as he gets older. Whether we sell him or not I don't know but I suspect he won't be featuring in the first team as much from now on.

Say what you want about Sissoko but he is still limited technically. His work rate is good but I think after an OK season so far it might be a good time to get some decent money for him next summer whilst he is 28 years of age too.

I think we should be brave and promote Onomah to replace them in the summer. He can do it.
