Like with most of our outgoings, you can't rave about our manager being one of the best we've ever had and call him 'magic' , watch him take us to CL finals and top 4 finishes, and then moan that he hasn't given X player a chance and that X player is really good and should be playing regularly for us and Poch is wrong. if his judgement wasn't so good we wouldn't be doing what we are doing.

Fwiw as an easy example, it's abundantly clear that both Winks and Skipp have an enthusiasm, a bit of 'get up and go' in their attitude, a 'drive' that you can see every time they play. It's appealing to the manager. On the dozen or so occasions i saw Onomah in a senior match he never once displayed that same trait. Which may be why or partly why he's fallen away. I wish him well if he leaves and will be intrigued to see what he can achieve, but if i had to bet on it, i'd definitely say 'nowhere near a top 4 side'.
Never got the hype.

Pochettino clearly really liked him initially - possibly the youngest player he’s involved in the first team squad, even younger than Skipp I think. But it hasn’t worked out. It doesn’t have to be one or the other.

If he was going to make it with us then his performances on loan would have seen him assert himself as a starter for the likes of Villa and Sheff Weds in the centre of midfield. He never did that. To play c.mid in the prem league for a top 4/6 side you should be unquestionably better than any other option a team in the championship has to use, not only in games but in training sessions; he obviously never did this.

Never got the hype.

Agreed. He looked good for England U20s but always though Winks looked more accomplished.

Good athlete, good technical ability - you can see why he was rated as a prospect - but decision making was never at the same level. I still think he could be a good player but I doubt it's with us sadly.

Hope he comes good wherever he is, good luck to him.

The problem with Onomah and I said it about three years ago, was that he plays football in such a casual manner. He looks lazy and disinterested and there's no fire in his belly.

I remember him being given a chance for Spurs in league cup games, and he was one of the worst players on the pitch. You just can't afford to do that if you're trying to break through at a club like Spurs. On top of that he went out on loan and was exactly the same. He clearly has technical ability and is an athlete, but I'd say in this kids case it's his mentality and drive which has let him down.

He just seemed to freeze whenever he got a chance. You can't be like that in CM, even if you have the ability of iniesta, you can't play the game at half pace like Onomah does.

I think he’s been quite hampered by injuries while out on loan. Also, it’s just become a lot tougher to break int our first team then when Pochettino was first here. 10m for an academy product is good business, let’s not overthink this.

JOSH ONOMAH has been frozen out by Spurs.

But the £10million-rated midfielder could be the latest young English player to move to the Bundesliga in Germany.

Manager Mauricio Pochettino has dumped Onomah, who has made 32 appearances for Tottenham, into the club’s under-23s.

Onomah, 22, has been stunned by Pochettino’s decision to be moved away from the first-team and will leave this summer.

Borussia Monchengladbach, Mainz, Augsburg and Frankfurt have all shown an interest, as the demand increases in Germany for young Premier League stars.

Onomah has made 32 appearances for Spurs but only seven of those have been starts – and none came in the Premier League.

He had a loan season at Aston Villa in the 2017-18 campaign but last term’s stint at Sheffield Wednesday was ruined by hamstring injuries and he only made 15 appearances.

Well I doubt any german team is considering to pay more than 5m for him. It is just another market and he would still be a gamble for these teams.

Never kicked on after the u20s world cup for me and although he showed glimpses of talent the fact he didn'tfull establish himself at 2 clubs in the championship suggests it is time to move him on.

I do hope we give Edwards one more try though.

Amazes me the way fans talk about young players like Edwards and Onomah as if they've been poorly treated. Its very simple, youth players with potential are given the opportunity to train with the senior squad to see if they can hack it with seasoned internationals, the vast majority can't cope with the pace, physicality and pressure.

All young players are scouted extensively, every club knows the score with every player, its professional football where players are millionaires by their early 20s, the most ruthless business around. There's a reason why nobody is interested in Onomah and Edwards, lets stop pretending they're ever going to cut it at a top 4 club.

All I can say is what a shame . Really thought he’d be given the chance to work into the squad. It’s clear now he’s got to leave . I generally believe he’ll become a very good player given the chance.
