As much as I love Jan he’s not exactly tough.

Cracking player but pain threshold of a 3 year old.
In the past 6 days he's crushed his nose, continued playing despite probably seeing two footballs and his legs literally giving in under his weight and yesterday he played the entire second half through a knocked ankle on pure adrenaline, resulting in him not even being able to stand on it after FT. Cracking point to present now though mate.

And he jumped high enough to head against the bar. What a hero.

Will go down as a true Spurs legend when people look back In the future

Absolutely. He came here initially as a classy ball playing center back who was a decent defender and has transformed into a colossal brick wall while maintaining his class on the ball. I never understood why there were never any links for a transfer for him. So so underrated. I say this often but I wish he got more recognition.

Totally agree . One thing that was particularly endearing was when , during an interview 18 months or so ago and the topic of players leaving came up . Verts said yes they can do that and go to massive clubs , but to win something with Spurs would be a much stronger emotion and achievement .

It would be wonderful if we could do that for this great club servant who could surely have multiplied his earnings/trophy cabinet with bigger clubs , but chose to dedicate his career to us .

Jan Vertonghen to Sky on his future: "I’ve got a year left. I will have to see what happens. I love being here. I feel great with the manager, he’s been supporting me and making me a better player. I’ve got everything I want. It’s the best club to play for at the moment."

I hope we keep him for another season beyond this one, we seem to have a new policy where we don't renew contracts once you approach 30 years old but if we're losing Toby & Rose that's a lot of experience walking out of the door and we're already short on that as it is.

I'm surpised we haven't given him a new contract already. Poch is obviously a fan and has said in the past that he could see Jan playing at the top level for years to come.

The over 30 policy is honestly ludicrous. Such an arbitrary barometer as every player and person is different. Jan could play for another 3/4 years at this level in my eyes. We need to reward our experienced leaders, especially as we have the likes of Toby heading for the exits.

Give him a new contract. Our most deserving player for one, IMO. Im hoping to see new deals for Jan, Eriksen and Sonny

The policy is to get money for players before their value drops. Not applicable to verts as he is 32 and we will get nothing for him next summer anyway.

I don’t think we have an ‘over 30’ policy do we?
