i'm no goalkeeping coach or expert but i always feel like a lot of keepers oversell themselves at their near post, perhaps because getting beat there is considered a massive sin but in doing so you give the striker a lot to aim at in the other corner.
I have the same exact pet peeve for goalkeepers, but I do feel it's slighly harsh in this case.

He's a good goalkeeper, but like a lot of our squad I dont think he's quite tite-winning/top level. Which is fine.

However there's not much between him and Gazza at the moment.

I really can’t see how you can criticise Lloris for “not doing better” for their goal when Trippier gave away the ball when our defence was out of shape. If Lloris was settled and on his line, fine. But the only person who should be getting shit for that goal is Trippier.

You could see Lloris sprinting back as he was a way out from goal, presumably to offer a passing option as usual, not anticipating that his full back was going to pull a defence splitting pass for the other team out of his arse.

Exactly! That goal was on Trips, and Trips alone. Dumb pass with our whole defensive line pressing forward, and knowing Utd's counter threat. Rashford rushing forward, received the pass from Pogba, controlled it, and placed it well. It was a gift, and no blame on Lloris.

Didn't want to say it but any keeper in hugos starting position would have conceded. Issue is he was too gar over near post. He was only too far away because he was rushing back and wasn;t set because of trippiers stupidity

Even fanboy favorite Degea wouldnt have stopped that one however Lloris would have saved all those given to De Gea and more.

Still World No 1 keeper

Hugo is still a very good keeper. And a very loyal player to club and manager. Admittedly we have started to see one or two mistakes come into his game, but I don’t think he could’ve done much with Rashford shot. I think half the time he might just get enough on it, and other times he’ll get beat. So, I’m not dissatisfied at all with how he did today.

All that being said, I think he might end up being a surprise departure this summer. Reasons for this; firstly, he’s getting on a bit. Secondly, we seem to have a very handy replacement as his understudy. Lastly, he still has a great reputation and is rated highly. Which means, in a day and age when some goalies are being purchased for 60m, I think the club would be open to letting him go, should they receive a bid in excess of 40m. It’s a ton for someone of his age, who is just starting to depreciate a little bit. Additionally, we have very limited financial resources to spend on players. So, getting 40m for a goalie, when we already have his replacement could be a good deal all around.

Don’t get me wrong. I’m not pushing for his ouster. I can just see that the environment Is ripe for this possibility over the summer. Whether is happens or not we shall see.

Gazzanigga saves that. Not because he's amazing and Lloris is shit, simply a size thing. Lloris got fingertips on it but not enough. Prime example was the Hudson-Odoi cross from Tuesday.

Great finish though. Albeit annoying from such an acute angle. Cant blame Lloris, the ones to blame are Trippier & the forwards

Very hard shot to save, but imo De Gea would of saved it. MOTD did a interesting positioning comparison bettween Hugo and De gea, for a similar angle shot De gea was a couple of feet to the right, such a fine margin could of meant he saved it, especially considering he got fingertips

Jenas made a good point on Match of the Day about the goalkeepers' positioning for Rashford/Kane's shots. De Gea had his feet both planted inside the post, whilst Lloris' left foot was outside.

However, whilst Hugo's positioning isn't perfect in a freeze frame, it doesn't take into account the fact that Lloris had to run back, caused by the panic of Trippier's intercepted pass, where he didn't have much time to properly set himself.

Really do not know where all the Lloris hate comes from. Gets dug out for marginal mistakes let alone full blown blunders!

He is still a fantastic goalkeeper that makes far less mistakes than most and makes far more saves than most. Doesn't hide, has never been a rabbit in headlights and vary rarely spills the ball. Also when making a save he invariably pushes it away from danger

Maybe it's because he isn't 6'10 and looks like a brick shit house

Gazza has done well but spilled one last week and saved one that wasn't pushed away from danger. Neither resulted in a goal, thankfully

Be careful what you wish for. Easily the best and most consistent keeper we've had since Jennings and then Clemence which was over 30 years ago!!!

Gazza saves that because he wouldnt have been that far off his line... Lloris is well outside his box and thats his normal position. No one was expecting for Trippier to wipe out half the team with his silly pass. De Gea wouldnt have been that far outside his biox running back so he is always set.

I dont blame Lloris at all on that - also Lloris played very well yesterday.
