I always thought Bentaleb was flawless when he played, until he became too adventurous and made costly mistakes. Hope Winks learna and doesnt repeat what Benraleb did.

I always had a feeling in my gut that Winks perhaps could be better than Bentaleb.

But at time Bentaleb was pretty much part of our furniture so I wondered if I was slightly loony.

One thing I also like about Winks is he seems to have a pair of balls unlike some who can play pretty in the easy games and then go missing - he plays with passion and tries to make things happen.

I can't see him moving ahead of Dembele at present due to comments from both coaching staff and players about how highly rated his play is, but he certainly provides very good back-up and allows us to perhaps rest Dembele when needed as he isnt the kind of player who can perhaps play all of the games.

He will probably take over very soon though and just love love love how the English boys who comes through our ranks bleed a little more for us.

I think one of the problems with Bentaleb was the fact we were asking him to be a holding player and he didn't have the discipline.

Schalke are basically playing him as a number 10 these days, and he looks much more at home in that role.

I was watching Real Madrid play Bilbao yesterday, and RM had a guy playing CM who reminds me a lot of an older version of Winks. Can't think of his name though.

Winks was excellent coming on today. We were marginally losing the midfield in the second half before he came on today. His composure, turn of pace and drive really helped stave off the pressure and was crucial to ensuring the 3 points. We've got a serious player here.

Good call by Poch today.

Another very impressive 20mins or so. Should have got at least 30 imo. He's making Pochs decision to leave him on the bench harder and harder

Brilliant effort when he came on. Was up to speed straight away against a pretty impressive Saints outfit and as said injected a bit of much needed bite into us again

Keep it up H2, great stuff

Looks such a classy little player & gets better and better each week...
He is imo what Bentelab was supposed to be but so much better.

Southampton were doing really well in the second half chasing down the loose balls and pretty much winning all the second balls. We looked a little over run in midfield. Especially with Wanyama being on a yellow. Winks coming on completely changed that, it allowed us to assert more authority on the game. He's such a silky calming influence on the team, his intelligent movement and passing are what's really impressive. It was good to see Dembele, Wanyama and Winks playing together...what a midfield three!

Top player, I think he has the ability to get in the England team pretty soonish, England have a massive lack of players who seem so comfortable with the ball, the only 2 I can think of bar Winks are Lallana (plays higher up the pitch) and Jack Wheelchair (shit). To be honest he's already a better player than Livermore and he somehow got a call-up..

WHen Dele first came in, remember those training camp comments that they ran the most/in best shape? Didn't realize they were competing for the same position at the time when I think about it now. Still rate Bentaleb's silky skills, but happy with what we got and good luck to him anyway.

He has so much potential, and you can see him improving in ability and confidence in every game. As he develops a bit more physically he will become actual competition for Dembele and Victor - he does tend to tire after about 60 mins whenever he starts which hopefully Poch and his team will also be workign on.

It's interesting to watch the players' interactions with him too. All the players high five and what not at the end of the game, but he got a hug off every one, you can clearly see the way the team as a whole consider him a real fixture of the first team, and rate his performances.
