great lttle player, he bossed it against Liverpool but he needs to carry the ball forward more
He carries the ball forward plenty.

his game is about changing tempo, sometimes he will explode into gaps and create space that way other times it's with a quick pass into feet between the lines.

Lets not make him another player over reliant on dribbling (as most in the game are now) i find it tiresome when players are so one eyed all they ever want to do is dribble, especially in situations when a simple pass would be much more effective, It infuriates me TBH.

Saw quite a bit of it in the Lo Celso highlights (hopefully will improve that with maturity if we sign him)

You see some youth games now and passing seems like a dying art, a last resort after trying and failing to break through with a dribble.

as Someone that loves a pass and move game it's disheartening.

Touches of the Modric about him.
Changes of pace and direction
looking for the ball

The comparison ends there
for the moment.
But he's got 10 years on Luka
plenty of time to develop
his other skills.

And he's one of........

Winksy finding a great way to enjoy his time after being snubbed from the England squad. Class act.

England missed him badly against Holland. Enjoy a nice break, hopefully he's fit fully fit for the start of the season.

If Southgate wants to play out from the back you need CMs that will drop and are comfortable to recieve the ball in traffic.
We only have one and that's Winks so why he's not Gareth's first choice is beyond me.

That game was like a return to the bad old days of picking players on reputation/not picking players because they'd played a few days earlier.

Although we played quite well over the 90, you could see from the start that Barkley had his work cut out alongside the other two. Rice and Delph, as well as Dier as a midfielder, are great examples of the traditional English midfield problems. Water carriers, in a negative sense too. Kante they very much are not. Not mobile enough, feet not quick enough and I’m sick to death of people championing ‘holding midfielders’ who get stuck in...that should be a last resort not a strength.

I have a pretty good feeling about Winks, Henderson and Barkley as a 3. No real out and out destroyer but plenty of technique, physicality and movement. All three can do the dirty stuff to a degree too.

Winks would have been picked and started had England had time to asses him I'm sure of it.

I'd of hoped 70 minutes or so of the biggest club game in Europe was enough time to assess him, but then I'm probably biased. I just hope he doesn't end up second choice when he should be first as happened with Carrick.

I agree, all three are genuine CMs who are comfirtable with the ball or pressing when the opposition have it.
I'd loved to have got Grealish last season as I think he may have the same strengths as well.

We need him to stay fit next season. He could be one of the best CM’s in the Prem next season if he does. He’s so assured on the ball, is good defensively, and always looking forward. He retains possession so well. It is evident just how crucial he is when he’s out or subbed off. We always struggled in CM this season without him.

Was interesting what Neville has to say today about Grealish. Talking about players having to choose which country they play for and he mentioned the only time he experienced it was when he was on the coaching staff with England and Grealish wanted assurances of playing time and selection etc

Massive negative imo. Perhaps that’s why he’s yet to play for England and why next season he’ll be involved in a relegation battle in his first proper season in the prem, where he will turn 24.
