The lad who owned Barca & Real yet can't have 1 single assist in 3/4 of a season starting almost every game?

If the rest of the pieces are clicking Winks will look fine, but if the rest of the team is down I have yet to see him lift up his level and make a real difference.

So if we’re playing well it’s not down to Winks, because everyone is playing well, but if we’re not playing well, it’s Winks’ fault that he can’t lift everyone else around him and take the game by the scruff of the neck? Only a handful of players over the years can do the latter, Roy Keane & the likes.

Even with that said, he has produced a couple of stunning performances over the last few weeks and in my opinion has been one of our most consistent performers alongside Son, Jan and possibly Sissoko. Dortmund second half he outplayed their whole midfield and I can’t remember which league game it was but it was one of the Kaneless games (maybe Newcastle?) - the whole match he was excellent. And he scored a crucial goal against Fulham too. He doesn’t need to assist, assisting the assister is sometimes just as important. Carrick didn’t assist much and he was alright. But yeah I do agree that he definitely could do with improving in the final 3rd.

I don’t get the dislike for him. Even forgetting the fact that he’s young and Spurs, he’s still a very good player and will get better and better. We’re lucky to have him and he will be a big player for us and England in my opinion.

Just my perception and opinion on it, I'd love to be proved wrong and he becomes a world class player but I don't see it yet.

Fabinho alone has as many goals + assists as Winks & Sissoko. James Milner has 8 goal contributions.

Liverpool only had 4 players with 6 goals or more before last night we had 7. Depends if you count eriksen and dele as midfielders. But agree re winks/sissoko I think that’s been one of our big failings in recent seasons is goal contribution from the central 2. You look at all the great teams over the years at least 1 of the central 2 made a decent goal contribution. All these players dembele sissoko winks would massively go up a level if they had more contributions.

When has a Poch cm2 been expected to chip in with goals (and, arguably assists too)? Like it or not, they're tasked with setting a platform and holding and controlling the centre of the park. Any goals they pop up with is a bonus.

All of our rumored CM targets have been much more offensively talented than Winks, Sissoko or Dembele. This myth that Poch just doesn't want his CM to chip in on offense is trash.

Oh, ok, we're going on rumour......

I'll take what I have watched for the last five years, thanks.

JJ told us we were trying to buy De Jong all summer, we enquired about Ndombele, Rabiot was obviously a target as well. I'm curious as to how those guys would have fit with Winks???

It's a shame that shot of his that hit the bar didn't go in. If Winks is going to take the next step as a CM, he has to offer a bit more going forward in my opinion. If you look at City and Liverpool, they have so much more goal threat from the middle than we do.
Actually, if you look at there stats, players playing CM for Liverpool have scored a total of 5 goals and 5 assists in 6389 mins, where as for us it's 4 goals and 3 assist in 5670 mins...... not a huge difference.

*above stats are PL only for 2 reasons 1) the only comp where we play the same teams, 2) couldn't be bothered checking the rest.

It’s pretty obvious why we was after them, it’s because we didn’t have a chance to get them.

Poch hold Winks up in very high regard so I’m taking his opinion on this

That makes no sense. Poch may hold him in high regard but he has also been trying to find a better player than him for at least a year.

JJ told us.....

None of those players are renowned for their goalscoring prowess.

I can only repeat myself, whoever plays in the cm2 for a Poch team has a whole list of responsibilities. Scoring goals I doubt is on the list, so people posting that Winks/AN Other needs to add goals to their game misses what is being asked of them. Anything they chip in is a bonus.

Ndomebele has 5 career goals in all competitions (116 games) and 2 of those were in Ligue 2. He is yet to score in Ligue 1 in 2 seasons. He only has 2 more assist than Sissoko this season too.

Rabiot averages 2 goals and 2 assists per season.

De Jong has the same number of assists as Sissoko this season, though has scored 4 goals..........in a dog shit league and will cost his new club 65 mil in the summer.

Spot on.

Poch told us many times how good Dembele was yet goals and assists wasn’t his game.

Sander Berge who @dtxspurs always goes on about has 2 goals & 3 assists In his career.

While Berge is a year younger his playing in a far far weaker league than winks.

( btw I’m a Berge fan too and would like to add him to our squad. )

...and Wijnaldum has actually scored 20 goals since coming to the PL. And Keita scored plenty in the Bundesliga. (31 goals in 117 matches)

I'm not saying Liverpools CM's are world class but they have much more goals in them than any CM we currently have.
Your including the Austrian Bundesliga in those stats, Keita got 14 goals in 58 games in the German Bundesliga (still decent).

Wijnaldum scored 11 goals for Newcastle playing AM and 9 for Liverpool in 3 seasons (8 from CM), so not massive stats, an average of just under 3 goals a season from CM.............Dier currently has 2 this season and has missed half of it through injury.

I want Berge to replace Wanyama, not Dembele.

Well atm Winks has replaced Wanyama as he’s the furthest back midfielder.

Like it’s proved every player you’ve mentioned has similar stats to winks.

Poch rates him, I rate him and you don’t that’s fine ??

Demebele's last assist in the prem was November 6, 2016. He had 63 appearances in the prem after that. Winks has had 2 since then.

Dembele also dominated on the defensive end and was impossible to get the ball from making us very press resistant.
