The over rating of Winks is unreal. He’s a decent player but he isn’t the second coming of Christ and he’s not been a one man midfield.

Sissoko has EASILY had the better season than Winks. Sissoko has been performing from the first day of the season and has created goals and done excellently defensively DESPITE his limitations.

How can you say Sissoko hides? He’s one of the only players to stand up and be counted this season. Honestly, when you read stuff like that, I’m afraid I can’t take your opinion about Winks too seriously.

Winks is definitely very upgradeable in our team. He’s neat and tidy and that’s all you can really say about him. That’s not really enough is it.
Yep definitely don’t quote me again.

Winks just turned 23. Carrick was 25 when he went to United, Modric 27 when he went to Madrid. I dont know why anyone would give up on him so soon.

of course winks is upgradeable but that player is easily gonna cost you north of 60 million.

Sissoko's been great but he's basically playing as a false rb leaving the midfield awfully light.

We need to buy a player that better compliments Winks going forward.

Seems like a nice guy, obviously Spurs through and through...

But he isn't good enough at the top level, never will be. Just doesn't have it

Squad player, nothing more IMO. Thrown in the deep end this season and has done well, I'll give him that, but if you think he is good enough for a team that wants to challenge for titles then I don't know what to say

If anyone leaves the midfield light how is it Sissoko? He’s the one who offers physicality and defensive solidity.

You’re also advocating building our CM around winks? I find that mind boggling. He’s not done enough to warrant that yet. He’s still got to prove he is good enough to hold his own position.

Absolute nonsense. That’s been Sissoko mate. come on now.

Sissoko has been a beast. Scares the shit out of the opposition, runs around, breaks things up, gets in the oppo faces and has great strength and explosive pace on the counter but he cannot dictate a football match and has no idea how to pop the ball around and keep possession. Nor does he see a picture or have any idea as to how to go about building a position from which to win a football match

Winks is the brain, the heartbeat. He sees a picture. He dictates a game and creates a style and culture through which a team plays

Sissoko can do none of that. Not Sissoko's fault. Most footballers cant. Winks can

You are definitely from the Carrick school of "Yeah but what does he actually do"

I bet people said that about Blanchflower too....

Put a proper destroyer next to winks and you’ll see how good he is at breaking lines when he has the security of someone next to him. Look at his forays and dribbles in brief glimpses during games. The boy has excellent ability with the ball at his feet, he’s just playing within himself and the tactical limits set upon his role.

Just so I'm clear on the, this player isn't good enough for spurs for each player who played against Chelsea schedule, what time is the Ben Davies segment?

No one really disagrees on that one so it gets a bit boring haha

I originally put Davison Sanchez but you never know when somebody might take you seriously. I just can't believe Winks is suddenly being questioned after the run he has had with no rest whatsoever. Even Sissoko got a couple of games of.

Thinking about next season I go backwards and forwards whether he is really good enough to be CM in a team with CL aspirations. For the large part he looks a very nice player neat and tidy and easy on the eye. My real quandary is if he is playing the deep role it’s the trade off with a player like Dier. If you’re playing winks in the deep role you have to accept you will lose a bit defensively over someone like Dier. But to compensate for that he needs to move the ball quickly and be more creative than Dier. And in the last 2 games he simply hasn’t. So your losing the defensive aspect of a Dier without any real progressive benefit. So you may as well just play Dier and be more solid. Will be interesting what poch does when Dier is fit, but it does now feel winks is first choice in that role. It’s really hard not to judge him with rose tinted specs, but right now he’s just a little bit short of what’s required imo.

I'm not convinced at all. He'd be a great squad player. Not a good enough starter for a title winning team. Everyone loves him and Sissoko but the center of the pitch is such a glaring weakness still.

Just wanna check that you're both talking about the young lad who, at some 21/22 years of age, went and owned the Real Madrid midfield? Played ridiculously well & stood out against Barcelona? even got dubbed "Hemel Hempstead Iniesta". :D

That lad, you mean?

Yeah. Keep him away from clubs with CL aspirations.

The lad who owned Barca & Real yet can't have 1 single assist in 3/4 of a season starting almost every game?

If the rest of the pieces are clicking Winks will look fine, but if the rest of the team is down I have yet to see him lift up his level and make a real difference.

Stats are nothing to do with what I responded to. Both posts stated that he's not good enough for a club with CL aspirations. I merely pointed out that he's clearly good enough, as he's stood out among the very best.

Maybe he's even more suited to CL than PL? All I know is he's still very much a lad. He only turned 23 a couple of weeks ago & is still practically a virgin in the first team. He has a heck of a future & I absolutely hope it's with us.

Onions.

Both Sissoko and Winks have their shortcomings and their strengths. Right now neither is a CM you want consistently starting for a team with supposed title ambitions.

Winks is good and will be very, very good in time.
It is stunning that some of our fans have the inability to put his performances into context.
Playing for a team that has had 40 injuries so far this year, coming off a WC where we had the most players at the latest stage, no recruiting and no home ground. And yet, a young lad dealing with his own tough injury issues and Mr. Sissoko get us to the position we are in now. It's incredible actually.

My hope is that we have enough collectively in the tank to sneak into the top 4 and get past Dortmund, and maybe a favorable draw gets us to the semi. BUT it won't be easy for the reasons noted in the above post.
