Shock horror: young midfielder getting better with game time and experience.

Chuffed for him, he loves Spurs and is getting better all the time now that he’s fit and playing regularly. Much as I love Dembele, he didn’t have the legs anymore. Winks is the future.

Looking very much back to his regular self in the last few weeks. I've been kinda frustrated about how many of our fans either not remembering how good he was for a season and a half before his injury vs Palace in the autumn of 2017, or just not being able to understand it.

Well of course, Winks didn’t cost a penny, isn’t from overseas and doesn’t have a stupid haircut, how can he possibly be good enough?

What a lovely team goal
Almost every player involved.

Carrick was an excellent
and very much undervalued player
at International level
but I don't remember him
involved in a move in midfield
and then getting on the end
of a header
to clinch a game on 92 minutes.
when he was only 22
after a career threatening injury.

You can love and appreciate both
without disparaging one
at the expense of the other.

He really stepped up yesterday and it's really pleasing to see the confidence he is getting with each match.

The plus side of an injury crisis like the one we are experiencing now is that it can allow other players to step up. If Winks starts to believe he is the heartbeat of the team then that will show through his performance and development. He can be top class.

Well said! He just started running after making the pass.

I loved seeing Toby in the box as well and Dier getting in there. It's great to see players want to step up and help fill the void of Son and Kane. Defenders and midfielders alike.

I think it's also because people often don't really get central midfield players and what their job is.
Or how long it takes to develop that final killer pass. It took Xavi a while before he really started to influence a game in the final third. I love how Winks goes seeking the ball and wants to get involved in play. In the first half when we were really struggling he was the one trying to get on the ball and get forward. He got into a couple of great positions, just lacked the end product. There was one point where he just took the ball off Sanchez and showed urgency to get forward.

Massively impressed with him considering we were told his injury would be a constant issue yet he's playing every game.

That said, we need to rest him on Thursday or Sunday this week otherwise I fear he'll be the next one injured.

Winks has been criticised (unfairly) for not being progressive enough. This has mainly been the case when he has played deeper, but with the introduction of Dier yesterday he was immediately free to get forward, which saved us the game. Good sub from Poch (for a change) and so pleased for Winks to bag us the points.

Don't see how we can afford to rest him in all honesty.

I think we need to have an SC whip round and buy him a phone that was made in the 21st century so he can publish posts more than six words wide...
