Regardless I just can't wait until he comes back, will be like our January signing. I actually probably wouldn't have imagined us doing so well in his absence as he would have been one of the first names on the team sheet for me. We'll just have such a wealth of options. Son, Sissoko, Lamela, Janssen, N'Koudou, Winks, Trippier, Davies, not a bad selection of squad players at all.

I don't have any problem with the level of sympathy aimed at Lamela here.

I do think a lot (not all) of you would be less sympathetic to other members of the squad or players for other teams.

I must admit, if the only reason a player missed 3 months of football was because his pet had passed I wouldn't be overly sympathetic. Probably comes from never being a dog owner.

However that clearly isn't the reason, despite the shit headline in the Telegraph.

If a player is injured and has had a family tragedy I can completely see why a player isn't available. It's pretty obvious. I'm not sure what there isn't to get. For a pet to then pass when you're a young man in a foreign country and that said pet is probably one of very view constants in your life - well it is easy to to see why that can help compound existing issues.

He is a footballer that got injured. That is why he can't play. It's not exactly unprecedented....

Things in his personal life have probably disrupted his recovery and his complete focus for a while. That is a natural part of being human.

Get well soon Coco. Miss you.

Not sure how accurate this is but...

I like Lamela, but if he wants to leave, then we can see if we can have an amicable separation.

I do think the squad has moved on without him, thou it would be nice to have him back. But..... He is mentally not there.. Might as well let him have his move then to risk spoiling the teams spirit at the moment.

To be fair to the Express, it's not their story and they're not claiming it is. It's from Skawka and they even link to the story.

Which is tenuous at best, at worst it's utter fiction.
If he does want to leave and go "home" I'm fine with that. As long as there's no link with his continued absence.

He just isn't that type of player/person imo. He could have run back to Italy at any time in his first 2 seasons when things were going terribly and he got a long term injury. Instead he stepped up and gave it everything. He never hides even when playing poorly and just keeps wanting the ball.

He hasn't hit the heights we had hoped, or not in the way that we hoped, but he has been one of our most important and consistent players over the last few years.

He makes our team better.

With us likely making it into the next stage of the FA cup, and EL fastly approaching, we need for him to get ready as soon as possible. Watching him since we signed him, I'm confident he will return stronger than ever (as long as his hip lets him).

Come on Coco, we need you baby!!!

Erik Manuel Lamela ‏@ErikLamela 2m2 minutes ago

Translated from Spanish

He explained to people that cares about me that I am in Rome curing me by an injury and not extra football problems

Death of my dog that was months ago and my brother who was not automobile accident. I am never answer anything

But I was annoyed that they invent such things, thank you to everyone who I encourage every day! I hope come back soon to the courts

Very poor translation but seems like his brother was not in fact in an accident, his dog died months ago and he genuinely is in Rome to recover from a genuine injury. Who'd have thought?

Just to be clear, I am in Roma at the moment recovering for an injury and not for any other thing that is not to do with football!
