Is he asking a question, giving an opinion and or both and then wanting Poch to challenge his opinion?

I dunno but it's a pretty standard thing to bring up particularly when said player played well, there doesn't need to be this irrelevant answer to a fairly mild question.

"Yeah we're happy with Erik, he's working hard in preseason and we hope that continues throughout the season" blah blah, it's not that difficult.

Pure speculation, but what if Poch and his coaching team had just finished going over the game with Lamela because he didn't quite do what he was asked to. Perhaps there were a few things they had specifically asked to see but he didn't quite deliver. Poch clearly rates Lamela, and yes it was great to see him play, look fit and play well from our perspective. But if Poch had just been saying to the player, "Eric you MUST do more of this, this and this..." it would be very frustrating to then face the question(statement) "excellent performance from Lamela wasn't it?". He obviously can't agree but equally isn't going to criticise him in public. I am not saying this is what happened, but it could be, and the point is one never knows why a manager will react strangely to a question without knowing what is going on behind the scenese

Looked decent again tonight

He did. Great run for the goal but he still has a habit of holding on to the ball too long and misplacing passes but I suspect that's just something we are going to get with him. I hope he can kick on. He started last season well before his form really deteriorated and then obviously another length injury followed.

Dele was guilty of that all last season as well and it seems to have continued in pre season. Hope they both improve on this quickly because it's pretty pointless having quick minded players up top, if they are going to slow the play constantly.

He wasn't frustrated with the Lamela question, he was frustrated as soon as he sat down and started the PC.

If Lo Celso or Fernandes come he’d probably be relegated to 7th choice attacking option. I’d say only City have that quality as 7th choice maybe mahrez. Then he’s competing with likes of lallana iwobi or mata. I certainly wouldn’t swap him for any of those.

Accusing him of slowing our play down is wrong imo. It can't be at 100mph all game, he slows it down when it needs to be slowed down, he doesn't slow us down to a halt and he always drags us forward. There's a reason Poch loves him, it's because he puts the impetus on the rest of our players to get moving forward. If he does stop, it's because there are no options ahead of him and he's waiting for them to present themselves - he easily has one of the best football brains at the club.

Dele, on the other hand, dawdles in a far more damaging manner lately. He demonstrates the traits people accuse Lamela of far more than Erik does.

I feel like this slowing down comment all stems from him not releasing Sissoko the other night , Maybe Lamela is an expert on the law of averages and knew the % of the ball leaving the stadium.
