You seem to missed the point entirely. I know full well what Lamela was supposed to be I’m just saying he hasn’t come anywhere close to that. I love Poch but don’t agree with him all the time on player evaluation so throwing in the fact Poch rates doesn’t really add any weight to your argument.
So your judgement on certain players is better than a manager getting paid 8 million a year who sees them everyday in training?
Sorry you need a reality check.

Or you could just have your own thread titled I know better than Poch.☺
We’ve already had one of those, it was called BC’s tactical autopsy thread or some other egotistical variant and BC genuinely did believe he knew more than Poch, I don’t but that doesn’t mean I agree with 100% of what he does, like I suspect 99.9% of posters on here. Just go to any match thread to see that.

Still don’t let me stop you from continuing to dig yourself into a hole.

Love how the kneejerkers are straight back out at the first sign of trouble with Lamela. I didn’t see them when he was one of our best players for the first 10-15 matches of the season

These people clearly don't understand the value of having a squad and how well it is working. Back then when Eriksen and Dele were having injury problems and Son was commited to South Korea, Lamela and Moura were the ones who stepped in and allowed us to not lose track of the top places. Now Lamela is the one with injury problems, but that's okay because the other guys are currently on an excellent form. Also, the FA cup will come and give us a nice break.

The good news is that his injury doesn't seem to be related to his previous serious injuries, so atm we have no reason to be fearing a season ending injury (though Poch vague statements, as someone pointed above, does raise some fair concerns).

I’m not sure people are knee jerking tbh. We need quality players that we can rely on for the majority of a football season. There’s no questioning he’s a quality player when he’s fit but there’s certainly a lot of room for doubt that we can rely on him. It feels like a very long time since he was absolutely crucial for us making killer passes and absolutely hounding down defences!

Sorry if you can’t get your head around the concept that a transfer fee is relevant in the context of what else you could have bought at the time, it doesn’t seem so complex to me.

£30m today doesn’t buy you much but when we paid that for Lamela it should have bought one of the best talents around, it didn’t.
I’ve come to be rather fond of Lamela and don’t want to see him go as I think he’s useful, but the above is simply true. Value at time of purchase with respect to the context of the market at that time is unequivocally a relevant component in consideration.
Of course I understand that. But it's just ridiculous how people always find new sticks to beat Lamela with. For years it has been 'he's not worth £30m' and now that he has improved this season, it is pretty much 'he's not worth £30m adjusted for inflation'.

Presumably I am one of your ‘kneejerkers’ so I’ll bite.

I don’t doubt his talent or his contribution but there have been far too many absences some of them very lengthy. I have always thought one of the strengths of Poch and his squad building is going for players who are normally very fit and inclined to stay fit. We currently have Dembele and Wanyama who are frankly passengers and the way Lamela is going he can be added to that list.

It was totally kneejerking as Lamela has been available the large majority of the time he has been with us (the year he was out seems to cloud our judgment when assessing this).

But look. I'm not one to complain. Last weekend when it became clear that the wolves were about to run us over, I started shouting like an absolute morron "fucking Losertino" over and over, so I understand what's to be a kneejerk and all that anger and stupidity that takes over one.

I still don’t see what he offers. When he comes on as a sub he is a yellow card waiting to happen and when as today he starts he literally offers nothing. The notion we can’t upgrade him is laughable but far less so than the possibility that he is a viable Eriksen back up or replacement. I know SC loves him so I will get massive neg reps but I’d sell him, he is obviously more suited to Italian football.

Start of the season he was playing very well. Unfortunaly of late his form has dropped off a cliff and today he was truly awful. He's so injury prone that it's hard to know whether he's anywhere near fully fit.

He's missed over 2 full seasons with accumulated injuries

Worked hard today but it didn’t seem to work for him today. Maybe today we saw why he hasn’t been closer to starting games

Didn’t have a great day today and arguably taking him off helped us by changing our shape. He will have a big role to play in the next few weeks, what’s the odds on him staying fit?

He's inconsistent which given his sporadic playing time over the past few years is understandable. He's a frustrating player but I'd argue he's shown enough (for me at least) to be part of our squad. Every single player in our team could be upgraded to varying degrees but you wouldn't get much change from 40m to upgrade on Lamela.

Absolutely shocking, so one footed. Clean through on goal, just needs to shoot with his right and tries to cross with his left. Cam only be an average player if You cant even kick it with your other foot

Makes me laugh when people say this only to realise that some of the world's best players have been totally one footed.
