I'm perfectly content with keeping him around for another season, getting a full offseason program in and seeing him hopefully add onto that game against Leicester. The guy clearly has potential to be an influential member of the team. He loves the club and plays so hard, makes him really easy to root for. Hope he makes a huge jump to fulfill his potential. Maybe the world cup will give him motivation to get back into the Argentina squad.

I’d fly to LA to go play in the 495 traffic if we replaced Lamela with fucking Zaha. Christ. What a massive downgrade that would be.
To be fair yankspurs I am not entirely sure based on your track record on here that is entirely too far fetched of a thing for you to do irregardless of what we do in the window.

Really puts everything into perspective. He's done well to recover from double hip surgery and put himself in contention to play, let alone, try to get back to the old tenacious Lamela we know. He deserves a new contract because if he was that determined to come back from a injury that took a year and 2 months from his career, how hard do you think he'll work on the field doing what he loves?

I agree, I've always had a soft spot for this guy. He was such a huge prospect when we got him from Roma and had all the potential in the world. He's had a few setbacks but I've always thought he would get it right here. This season he could be huge if he gets a full healthy offseason.

I expected the disagrees and i expect more too. However, all anyone has to do is watch the way we play, watch Lamela play at his best and watch Zaha play at his best. Do this unobjectively throwing out ALL biases and then come back here.

I have watched Zaha alot the last few years and have wanted to see him do well after United almost ruined him(they’ve sadly almost developed a habit of this looking at the developments of Shaw(bar his injury), Martial and even Rashford for that matter). I like him. Still, give me Lamela. You jusy cant teach pace, work ethic or vision/awareness. Zaha only has one of those, pace. The others? Hes just lacking. He tends to hold the ball too long as does Lamela but Lamela is a much better passer. The other main difference is finishing but you can work with Lamela on that a bit at full fitness, which he is getting back to. Neither are at their peak yet for me. Zaha’s level is closer to an important role for an EL fighting English club, to my eye. IMO, Lamela’s peak is closer to an important role for a perrenial CL fighting for honors English club. That’s because his work ethic and his vision is just far superior.

Right before Lamela got hurt(which was beginning of 15/16), he was great for us and notched a few goals to go with a couple of assists at the end of 15/16. And many thought he was ready to break out in 16/17. Sadly, he got hurt almost immediately. Pochettino’s system relies on vision/awareness and work ethic. Lamela is just the much better option for us between the 2. Give him another season and keep him fit and lets see what he does. He spent more than a year through 2 surgeries and got almost completely fit and ready to start PL games by the beginning of this year.

I am on the same page as both of you.

I literally just finished re-watching the game. If truth be told, he was one of our better players even in the 1st half. I agree he had a few cock ups but his off the ball position and awareness when he both pressed and was there to assist both KWP and Wanyama was top shelf. The knee jerk reactions in the final third where I agree he could have done better doesnt warrant the hateful comments as he more than proved himself a winner in the second half.

Yeah I was gonna say Lamela's first half wasn't that bad, people were too quick to jump all over him which isn't surprising, kinda sad really.

Lanzini just pulled out of Argentina's squad - possible chance for Lamela to be called up?

Argentina should be playing 4 strikers at the same time, so much quality to choose from...

Clearly won’t be Lamela called up. He needs a good long preseason to get back to the level where he can be useful for us. He’s not ready for international football either in terms of fitness or performance at the moment. It felt like every time he cam on he was just trying too hard to make a difference and it resulted in a lot of weird decisions on the pitch. I think once he gets his base level up in preseason he’ll relax into a more consistent and effective option.
