He might be the slowest, least agile player I've ever seen in a Spurs shirt.

And I saw Fazio try to dribble into four Chelsea players and not make it past the first one.

How did people think he did v BHA?

I thought he completely disappeared in the second half when the going got tough. In fact he was responsible on a few occasions of getting bullied off the ball and giving the ball away.

I think he is a huge part of why our CBs and defence look so exposed the last few weeks. I just don't get why Poch keeps playing him when he is so poor.

I like to analyse players win lose or draw. Just because we won it doesn't mean I can ignore such a feeble contribution from him. He needs replacing asap.

I think he did very well. Always available for a pass, kept it ticking and also played more vertical passes than he has lately.

2/3s of his passes were forward. More passes than anyone else on the pitch. Our best moves included him moving the ball forward quickly, including his pass through the lines to Lamela in the build up to the winner.

Defensively and off the ball he was still terrible and he isn't good enough on the ball to make up for his other deficiencies. His pass to Lamela was easy.

Can't imagine how bad the players that were offered to the coaching staff must have been for them to turn them down, knowing Dier was going to be a permanent fixture in central mid.

Very well really is stretching it, but if that is what we come to expect from our CM/DM nowadays at Spurs, we have set a very low bar.

Yep. Without his forward pass we don't get that second goal. He could have played the easy square pass but no, he went forward instead.

I made a point of watching Dier because some have been very down on him and I have to say he was my man of the match.
I believe it comes down to how you view football there are some that like the flash players likeTaraabt or Dos Santos and the like .
For myself I believe that without the players of Diers ilk the opposition will walk all over you and I know he polarises opinion but we have had players of a similar worth to Spurs over different eras the likes of Howells;Pratt;Mackay;and many more and I know these type of players are like marmite to supporters some love some hate them but I tell you this if I was in a place where I was in big trouble it would be the likes of Dier that I would be wanting on my side and not the Dos Santos of this world

There is no denying his defensive qualities and attitude but his ability to keep the ball under pressing is suspect. Nearly every game this season he has conceded the ball or misplaced a pass at the wrong end of the pitch. I'm sure opposing teams are sussing this out which is why he has been caught more this season.

It's not specifically him as Toby and Dembele have also played some hospital balls, which is a deeper concern for me.

Don't think he's that slow, just think he takes a long time to get his long legs going.

Thought he played OK on Sat, but needs to keep getting better if we're going to do anything this season.

It's a subjective term, but it's the best way I had of describing how I felt he played. He passed my eye test with flying colours and the the stats I checked later confirmed my thoughts.
His positioning and use of the ball was a key reason why Brighton couldn't get the ball off us or get near to rattle our build up play. Not the only reason, of course, but certainly one of the keys. He's obviously lucky to still be in the team after some of his performances lately, but if he hopefullt this was him turning a corner.

No. I like defensive players as much as anyone, but he has not been good enough defensively for a long while. Him going missing and giving the ball away is a key reason why we've looked so poor defensively this season.

As I said, a big part of Brighton's best spell of the game, and we looked RATTLED as hell, was because Dier kept getting dispossessed, mugged off possession or losing 50/50s. Rewatch it if you don't believe me.

I'm not saying he was poor for 90 minutes, and he was better saturday than he has been recently, AND I hope he continues to improve....BUT....he is still a long way off being good enough at the moment and frankly, I don't ever see him turning into the type of player we need in the CM. He is just too slow in possession and too easy for decent opposition midfielders to play around.

A big part of Dier being any good is being in your face and playing at 100% intensity, if he doesn't have that edge to his game he is average and I haven't seen that intensity in a long time.

Lately he has been giving the ball away to the opposition through too casual passing. I think he should try to improve on this.

I think a large amount of our issues stem from Dembele and Eriksen underperforming. Dier doesn't do well under pressure and when these 2 play well he isn't as badly exposed.

It's a difficult one with Dier. I think there is a mobility issue with him; it's not a lack of pace, it's more a problem with agility, balance and acceleratation. Playing midfield you need to be able to adjust and turn your body quickly, Dembele is a master at it, Dier will never be at that level.
That being said, it doesn't necessarily mean you can't be effective. A couple of years ago when he first started playing there i remember noting how well he was playing. His reading of the game, positioning and timing of tackles was very good. Plus I've always felt he could pass the ball well. He played deep and kept the game in front of him so he wasn't caught out due to his physical liabilities.
I may be wrong in saying this (as I've not checked his positioning stats), but currently I feel he's pushing up the pitch either too much or too soon, getting turned and then not able to recover if possession is turned over. I also agree with a previous poster in that he's been making some lazy passes which needs to be addressed. I also agree that teams may be targeting him in the press, but he's not the only one and I believe he has the composure to deal with that. When that happens you're often relying on teammates to work harder up the pitch to show for a pass, and I believe certain players aren't doing that as well as they have been (Kane for one, Alli is very good at this and we miss him when he doesn't play but I digress).
Overall I think some of his recent performances haven't been upto it but I am a fan overall and think there is a good player in there if he plays to his strengths.
Sorry for the ramble

He's not that young, that tag has ended now for most of the squad.

Anyway he was good at the weekend bar one mistake of losing position which nearly lead to a Brighton goal.
Needs to work on his play and composure when he's pressed
