There was a moment against Germany, when Dele Alli turned two defenders with one jink, that it hit you. He is special.
This made me laugh.

It's not the fact he's scored 1 in 2 in the Premier League this season that makes him special, it's not the Goal of the Season he scored last year, or indeed any of the other great goals he's scored, it's not the fact that he's outperforming almost any other Premier League player at his age in the past, it's not the screamer he scored on his England debut against France. None of this makes him realise Alli is special. No, it was dribbling past a player.

People need to take the Spurs tinted glasses off. Completely deserved and could easily have broken his leg.

That's actually the fist time I've seen it from this angle and at this speed, and it does look a lot worse than I originally thought.

Fair enough.

It's a real pity. You work all year to get in the Champions League (hopefully) and then you end up banned for potentially half of your team's involvement in it. We'll probably get an exciting draw next season as well (unlike this year). Big glamour tie that you'd love to see Alli play in.

The trick is to finish 4th - get the two play-off ties to make the group stage...

Slow mo. Look, yeah, he could've broken his leg, you can break your leg during any game of football especially when your leg is straight like that. I still think the force going into that tackle was minimal as he wasn't running and lunging but he was from a stationary position. These slow motion gifs make them look worse as well. Like I said earlier watch it in real time and it's not overly malicious as there's no real force behind it. If his leg breaks from that impact he's got brittle bones. What about all the innocuous challenges that have led to broken legs, should these players get banned as well. I think people get so precious about leg breaks anyway, part and parcel of the game, as long as you're not deliberately setting out to break someone's leg I'm ok with it to be honest.

Like I said though, it was reckless and potentially dangerous tackle like you say (though I swear he could've made that tackle with the same force 100 times and only break his leg once) so he deserved the red but all this OTT shit is laughable IMO, it's along the same lines as people who want to stop slide tackling all together because you can potentially break someone's leg.

The problem I have with it is that you knew it was coming. He was angry about something else and you just knew the next challenge he was about to make was going to be reckless.

I'm fine with him having that 'nasty streak' in his game, but keeping a cool head is something he needs to learn. Not only only can he badly injure a fellow professional, but now we lose him for 3 games in Europe next season.

Beckham went through this, he was exactly the same at the start of his career. The red mist would descend. I'm sure Alli will learn to control it, as Beckham did, it's just part of growing up.

No surprise to see an overreaction to what was a clumsy tackle.
Anyone would think Dele stamped on the guys throat judging by some of the shit on here.
Watch it in realtime, that's how the game happens, not this ultra slo mo shite that makes every foul look career threatening.

Don't try and break someone's leg then.

Clumsy tackle? We all support Tottenham but this is ridiculous.

I reckon you might think differently if it was the other way around.

Who is overreacting and what exactly is "some of the shit on here"?

He know exactly what he was doing. Why else go so high on the leg rather than trying to get the ball on the floor?

Have you not seen the video earlier on this page? If Charlie Adam did that to a spurs player, I am sure you would be going ballistic.
Maybe for about a minute, right up until our player got up and continued with rest of the match, uninjured.
