I think maybe you are thinking too much in an attacking sense.

Rose even when not 100% is still a bloody good defender, it's hard to think of a LB that is better in that regard.

Oh he's definitely not great in an attacking sense - he is good at getting the ball from defensive positions to the edge of opponents box,i'll definitely give him that, but the final pass/cross/shot is nowhere near good enough (wait until you see what Sessengnon can do).

But defensively i'd have him behind Jan (the best left back performance of the season in Dortmund) and Davies tbh, unless he's absolutely back to his best and can sustain that for a whole season.

We are a far better team with rose in he would be very hard to replace. If sign Ryan great but rose needs to stay. Right back is far more important we lost way to many points from the right!

Plenty of people seem to think that. I'd ask them what was the best left back performance they've seen in recent memory and i'd be stunned if anyone voted for a Danny Rose game over Jan Vertonghen v Dortmund. That's 32 yr old centre back Jan Vertonghen playing out of position, but comfortably being better than Danny Rose has been for at least 2 1/2 years. Which to me suggests that somewhere out in the big wide world we might be able to find a left back who is better than Danny Rose (and also not injury prone).

Agree with Jan, but also think there were games when we looked lost and roses passion saw as over the line. But have you seen many of any better left back performance than jans? We will be hard pushed to find a better LB than rose and it’s time wasted when we could be look at RB!

Rose definitely had a good run at the end of the season, and whilst jans game was great, it was one game, and hes our first choice CB i.e. not going to compete with danny for the spot, so I dont think that should be seen as a damming indictment on rose (you could say Jans performance was as good as any LB in the league let alone spurs).

Rose has a peak higher than davies, and I'd much rather keep him if Sessognon comes in, however I suspect his market value is also significantly higher than Davies' which is why he would be the one shipped out if any, simply because there will be buyers and an attractive sum of money for balancing the books a bit.

when are the players back in training then? friday?

Those who didn't have international duty after the season ended will be back on July 8th. Seems the French and a couple of the English players will be back on the 12th and a couple of the other English players on the 15th.

Seems strange there are so many stories about him going still. Something must be going on behind the scenes for us to want rid. There aren’t many better fullbacks around when he’s on top of his game.

Looking past him being a great character who I reckon we all love; he's a 29 year old fullback who's pretty much all about his athleticism, and has had fitness issues in the later seasons.

He's got two year left on his deal and while it might make sense for us to hold onto him for a year more, this is probably the last summer someone might give him a 3-4 year contract on decent money. Cannot see us doing the same and potentially have a 32-33 year old Danny Rose on our books in a few years.

Parting ways this summer could mean that he gets another decent contract and that we wont be the ones paying him when he declines further.

Vertonghen's 2nd half performance was incredible without a doubt.
His delivery was outstanding and he offered a genuine goal threat.
But he was not so convincing in the first half, when we were on the back foot as I remember.
Players were accelerating away from him. To be fair, he never had pace to burn.

But my biggest objection to Jan playing LB is he seems to pick up more injuries.
He is a great LCB. He is happy there. I know - lets keep him there.

Yep, not for one moment would i suggest moving Jan to left back in anything other than an emergency. Point i was trying to make was that that is the sort of attacking performance we should expect from a left back at our club now, in every game (obviously subject to slight fluctuations of course). A high percentage of fans seem to think Rose is good enough to be first choice, yet imo he offers nothing other than effort - which should be a given from any player tbh. Trippier gets slaughtered and everyone wants him out, yet i've seen Trippier actually win games for us (and England) with great final balls that have been converted and/or a free kick or two that he's stuck away. I'd assume the stats on goals and assists would be hugely in favour of Trippier over Rose. Yet we are all happy enough for him to be sold (me included). My personal opinion is that some players are fans favourites and you become blinded by their loyalty/commitment/love of the badge. Imo if he left, in a years time those same fans would be thinking 'fuck me, this new bloke is mustard' (who ever that new bloke might be) cos in reality Rose wasn't as good as they thought.

I think we should cash in on him, he been great for us. I think we need to go all in on Jamal Lewis at Norwich before he has a season in the prem and his value rockets.

No guarantee his value rockets. If they get relegated he will be available for a reasonable fee.

Very few of our players won’t be linked with moves away. People really need to learn to ignore media transfer stories.

I hope Rose stays. His commitment to tackling was at 100% at the end of the season, so vital.

Really hope he stays. I think he has a lot left to offer, whether as first choice left back or simply as a mentor for Sessegnon, if he arrives. We have greater priorities that need to be addressed before we start creating more gaps to fill.

The simple fact is that there's absolutely no better left back we could go out there and get. Selling Danny would be pointless and weaken us.

Just before the final poch told us that 5 players wanted to leave last summer, reading between the lines I am guessing that Danny was one of them. I think it is safe to assume the others are Toby, Trippier, Eriksen and am unsure on the last but believe Dembele. So maybe just no way back for these guys.

I think the situation with most of these players is similar - especially Rose and Toby. Clubs with money are less and less keen to land themselves with older players on big wages particularly if they are not out of contract. Tripps and Eriksen are that bit younger and there’s probably more interest. The other option (which Mousa took) is China but you then really are at a point when money is the only driver. I can certainly see both Rose and Toby here next season. Would be interesting to know how happy Pouch is with that? To be fair the commitment from both last year was unquestionable.
