the American Civil Liberties Union, which is about as liberal a group as you will find, has gone to court to allow the KKK to demonstrate. my opinion is that when you let idiots expose themselves to the light of day they are usually laughed off.
Precisely.

Sorry @yankspurs , I think my post may have come across as more assertive than I meant. I wasn't directing any invective specifically at you. But apologies if it came across that way.
I didnt think anything of it mate. It was a genuine question. I get that some people just look at anyone with money speaking out with skepticism. I do the same thing too on other topics as it just comes across as righteous do as i say bs. Just not when it comes to this. When it comes to racism or anti semitism, these are real world experiences that many people face regardless of wealth or status. How can someone tell someone who experiences this to stay in their lane? Especially when another athlete is obsessively targeted by a media rag because of his race?

You're absolutely right about how repellent racism (and any discrimination) is.

Having been subject to it myself, both overtly when I lived in a council estate in North London, and more subtly at public school as a scholarship boy with a foreign name from a council estate, I can empathise with Danny, and anyone else who’s suffered racist attacks.

And of course telling someone they have no right to protest, actually telling them they have no right to feel pain is terrible. I hold my hands up and confess that I did the same when Stan Collymore spoke of his depression many years back (the supreme irony being I suffer from it now).

My only worry about our approach these days, made so much keener when we see the increased sophistication being used by the likes of the alt-right, is that we may be painting ourselves into a corner. That we’re on a path that pushes us, and our opponents, further and further to the extremes. And in a polarised atmosphere, understanding and consensus become harder to achieve.

Danny speaking out, I feel, is the right thing to do, not just because it highlights just how far we have left to go, but also because it does lift the rock over some of those people who justify their racism on the basis of things like wealth.

Get them out into the light, I say - drag those who philosophise (for want of a better word) racist thought out into the open and see how long their ideas last and then we can get to work helping those who made mistakes and want to retract.

To do that, we must always have a hand ready to be extended to those who simply don’t know better. These are all human beings. None of them are fundamentally evil or irredeemable.

I don't think the mods want this discussed here as it just isn't something that can discussed without tempers running high and posts deliberately misinterpreted by the keyboard warriors.
Genuinely good posters would be lost.
These are not genuine offers to debate the issues around Rose's views - more like entrapment.

Over the next month Levy will be weighing up if Rose gets a new contract this summer - he is one of the better players and deserves one imo. I think he would have got one last summer if it wasn't for these regular raw interviews where he speaks his mind without guidance.
For me journalists are using him as they know they'll get good headlines. Many people will be glad that all these things are being said but the chances are that Rose will pay the price. Literally millions.

Just rewatching the highlights - what a massive block/clearance from Danny at 3-2 to clear with Bernardo coming in. So happy for him

No way should we sell him - rediscovering his form of old. I don’t see LB as pressing issue this summer - focus elsewhere.

Been very good of late defensively. I wouldn't waste precious money on a lb if his injuries are behind him

If we didn't need to buy players elsewhere, LB would need upgrading imo. Danny's control and all around football ability just disappears into thin air as soon as he gets within 35 yards of the goal

He’s a defender, he’s not going to be great going forward otherwise he wouldn’t be a defender

Yeah, but our fullbacks spend more time attacking than they do defending.

I thought his commitment was fantastic tonight. Loved watching him. But I get the criticism as well - really wish he could deliver a good cross.

The less said about his counterpart on the other side the better.
