bpth are far too inconsistent and injury prone mate

It's true but we have them and hope they are fit a fair amount....maybe Poch can increase their value attacking wise (Lamela has started the season quite well mind you) We need more from them this season

I take your point too, but I don't believe the options are quite as mutually exclusive as your post suggests: I think we have the money to bring in another creative or forward player even if Eriksen goes on a free next year.

It's stonewall confirmed that we were still trying for Dybala despite already having agreed a deal for Lo Celso at the end of the English transfer window. IMO that means we had money for a Dybala bid without absolutely having to sell Eriksen this summer, because if (as I suspect will be the case) Eriksen makes his mind up to play out his contract and go on a Bosman next summer there's nothing that anyone at Spurs - including Levy - could have done to force him to leave this summer for a fee.

Therefore, if we had cash for Dybala without any guarantee of an Eriksen sale to recoup some spend this summer, we will still have that Dybala cash for a creative/forward player next summer even if Eriksen goes on a free. Granted, we'd have more money to play with and potentially strengthen other areas of the squad if Eriksen were to be sold for a transfer fee, but this is where the shades of grey and opinion come in. Personally, I'm of the opinion that we as a club lean a smidge too much towards the "plan for next season" side of the scale at the expense of the focussing resources on the current season (albeit not massively so; I still recognise that we have to plan for the future as well as the present) and hence if Eriksen is to go I'd prefer him to stay this season and leave on a free next summer rather than getting money for him now and not having him available for the 2019/20 campaign.

It's a balance; I don't think that you don't make a valid point, I'd just be more comfortable with the balance of our priorities weighted very slightly more towards the present, but only a touch.

Yeah of course there is other money that would be used. My point was more that whatever sum we have for player investment it is finite. So Eriksen leaving on a free would leave a 40-50 million hole. Maybe more.

If he vaults us to the title or the champions league final then it would probably be worth losing him for nothing but that's a big risk.

the club haven't fucked up, you can't force someone to sign a new contract, and you can't sell them to someone they don't want to join.

you need to understand players have more power than a manager. the only thing we could of done was not include him in the squad for failing to sign, and you don't do that to a quality player or you would have others go on strike doing it
The club have fucked up as they should of sold him last summer when clubs came in for him but we said he wasn’t for sale.

We quite likely wouldn't have made the CL final or top 4 in the EPL without Eriksen. Both of those are worth way more than any fee we'd have got for him last summer. If we'd failed to get CL this season we wouldn't have signed the quality of players we just have either.

But that's a debate for another thread.....

I guess until there is a bid or even interest there’s not going to be any news. It just seems like nobody has come in for him all summer from abroad.
It is just unfortunate for him and now us that the clubs that he aspires to play for don't seem to view him as a priority signing. That being the case, they can afford to kick back and offer him a package next summer. From our point of view, it would obviously be counterproductive to drop him, as alluded to by @Lighty64 but hopefully if everything clicks, we may find ourselves in a position where we do not need to rely on him as heavily over the course of the season and he is not necessarily a first team starter. Not from a vindictive point of view but clearly we will have to get used to playing with him from the 20/21 season onwards.

Iam taking about from a financial point of view if the club wanted money for him, I wouldn’t have sold him last year and I wouldn’t sell him now as I said previously the 80mill we lose out on is not my money so Iam not fussed.

Haha what??? There's been two games this season, one against Villa where he completely changed the game in our favour, and one against the best team in Europe where the whole team was shit. You're acting like we're halfway through this season and he's played crap every game.
I really don't think he changed the game as much as people think. I think the change in the play was due to our change in tactics, more than his introduction (which partially coincided with his introduction). The front three were really congested the first half. The second half we saw an almost instant change as kane was dropping more to the middle and Lamela and Lucas more to the wings. It opened up space for us. Poch brought on Eriksen to take advantage of that space, Eriksen's introduction didn't make it.

You’ve contradicted yourself. On the same page. Impressive.

Not sure how many times I have to say it but Iam saying the club fucked up financially by not selling him last summer and letting this scenario happen where we could lose him for nothing. I have also said more than once that personally Iam glad he stayed and hope he stays this season as the finances don’t effect me and he’s a quality player.

This is exactly what people cannot understand! Eriksens value to us is not £50mil; it's potential windfall from CL qualification!!!

The club didn’t really fuck up though did they? He was offered a new contract last year and he didn’t want to sign it as he thought Real Madrid were after him.

I fail to see how the club can be blamed.

His agent said during the season that clubs were interested last summer but we said he wasn’t for sale. Any club is then taking a big risk letting a player go into his last season of his contract. At the end of this season we could lose him, toby and jan for nothing.

Is it a huge crisis if he leaves for nothing next summer? We bought him for 11 mill or so. He been on average wages for a player of his standard.
The ones on here saying hes been poor, that hes not important or belives Lo Celso will fill his shoes right away.....i think you are in for a shock when hes gone.
But hopefully we can have him with us this season too. I dont think RM, Barca og juventus will come for him now.

I do agree with the emphasis on his importance to us completely, I too think it will be a case off you truly know what you're missing when it's gone, to the people who want him out so bad. What we'd potentially get for him would certainly be useful though, it would presumably be a very large portion of what would go towards the replacement.

I don't really know what I'd want to see, the thought of him leaving for free or leaving for a fee but this summer are both pretty shit to think about.

As a fan I want him to play well for us. If he leaves on a free, so what?! I’m a fan, not an accountant. Obviously there’s numerous arguments for & against. If he goes, he goes. My personal love for him has never reached the same heights as I have for Jan, Dele or Harry. I’ll be candid: Sissoko has elevated himself higher in my personal faves. I think Eriksen is unplayable on a good day; there’s a reason we paid the “low” fee we did; he’s found wanting at times. Whatever the outcome I’ll tune myself in to be content. Spurs is the team Eriksen is the individual: Roberts, badge, shirt etc
