Think we should be playing both eriksen and GLC, Newcastle will be sitting deep and will play on the counter, I think ndombele and winks should be defensive enough for this game
Fair point. But Sissoko is there, and obviously he is there guiding TN.

We created what 2-3 chances tonight? The two goals we scored pretty much came out of nowhere. We had zero interplay and absolutely no momentum.

I don't blame Kane, Eriksen etc for looking off because there were hardly anything to work with in this match.

Edit: I feel like some of you don't understand how superior a team like City are right now. They completely thrashed Westham last weekend, looked like boys vs men. To be fair we did as well during spells but we have the quality to take our chances.

I thought Eriksen was supposed to be our metronome, it's his job to provide the stuff to work with and control the game - he was anonymous.
The impact vs Villa has been massively overrated, naff me I think even Shearer on MOTD worked out how the game changed.

This would be the advantage of having depth if he stays, personally think he's quite anonymous in these types of games and you really appreciate the likes of Lamela, Winks, Ndombele, Moura who are brave on the ball, also this is what Lo Celso is meant to bring, Eriksen brings something when we are the aggressors and need somebody who can slice teams open. Vs the likes of City you want people who are brave on the ball and are willing to keep it under pressure and turn an opponent.

Here's a rethorical question: Which Spurs players today had the most touches? It's usually Eriksen. Tonight it wasn't.

The few times we had possession the ball was passed between Lloris our back four and Winks. It's because 1) City has an insanely effective press 2) Because we were scared / or instructed to be careful with playing it through the middle because of City's effective counter attacks.

This results in very little for Eriksen and the rest of our attack to work with. I'm not blaming TA and the rest, City is just that good. Of course there's things to be improved but it can't be down to one individual player to do so.

Being linked to Madrid again in the sun, also someone in the Ajax hierarchy ( can’t remember who) said van de Beek ain’t be sold this season, so eriksen becomes only option really

Shocking display, just seeing the absolute laziness highlighted on motd

The sooner the Madrid door closes on him in a couple weeks the better

They don't want u dude!

Should place the whole team on the bench, then, by that logic. He saved us vs Villa last week, don't forget that. Don't let his contract blind you.
Eriksen had nothing to do with our turn around last week against Villa. We changed formation in the second half and was pressing and were well on top when he came on for Winks. The other players made it easy for him to shine, not the other way around. He had fuck all to do with any of the goals, so to read you and the media with this myth that he changed the game and saved us is pure nonsense.

If he wants to go that badly, then today was the perfect chance for Eriksen to put himself in the shop window.

Once again though, he went missing when we badly needed him. With his performance today, he was a waste of a squad place, let alone a place in the starting lineup.

Just to be sure:

When Eriksen plays well, creating changes etc. it’s down to our formation and our tactics

And when he plays like shit it’s because he’s a fraud who we never should have bought in the first place? Right?

Top players influence games no matter the oppo and no matter the formation. He’s a class player but he’s not a game changer at the elite level. That’s why Madrid have gone cold. He’s had enough chances in the shop window but hasn't produced when it really really matters. I’d love him to sign but think glc and ndombele will give us more of a dynamic in the long term.

Criticism of Eriksen does not just stem from this one performance, it’s sadly becoming the standard.
And some people think it's unacceptable and that we should blindly worship these players week in week out. He was shocking for the best part of the whole second half of last season, he did well against Villa but you could just as easily attribute the turnaround to the tweak in formation and he was dreadful today.

I saw somebody say that Ndombele was to blame for City's "third" today and he was saved by a whisker by VAR. Well, by that logic Eriksen nearly got us booted out of the CL in the quarter finals last season with that carcrash of a pass that deflected off of Silva into Aguero's path.

If whatever rumour I saw on Twitter is true and RM are going to come in with a bid for £60m right at the end of this window, we should bite their hands off.

TBF he was absolute dog poop today. But then so was everyone else. Still if he wants his big move he needs to show those teams what he can do. He's been mediocre for a while now. Barca and Madrid don't buy mediocre. He needs to do what Modric did when he didn't get his move to Chelsea, show what an amazing player he can be, not this shite.

It’s fine if Eriksens shite form existed in a vacuum, but go back over last seasons performances and you’ll see he has been atrocious for ages now.

He constantly loses the ball and gives it away. For a supposed top class player it’s actually embarrassing how easily he gives the ball away.

Compare him to Kane. When Kane gets the ball at the very least he keeps possession. Even when the team is paying poorly top
class layers should still keep possession. You should absolutely expect CE to keep the ball. Especially as basically our most technical AM.

He’s been garbage for ages and a few last minute goals in the last year doesn’t change that.

He was terrible today. I was in a mixed pub and, god knows what the stats say, but it felt like Christian lost the ball EVERY time he touched it. Sad to watch as I love the dude.

Eriksen is a victim of the situation or the hero according to the situation. The problem with Eriksen if the situation is wrong he isn't a game changer and doesn't try to be.

Let us get this straight. There is no way he would get near citeh’s team. And that is not a knee jerk reaction, due to his contract situation. I often keep quiet over the past 18 months, when I hear people championing him. He has been poor for a very long time. His assists and goals camouflages what he does over 90 minutes. Only plus is, he has a good engine.

He doesn’t dominate the games he should (top games) and looses possession far too cheaply. His set pieces? Let’s not go there. He should be ‘rested’ for ‘tactical reasons’. Especially now Alli, Son coming back, and GLC. Then Sess, not long thereafter. The ethos of our style of play has to evolve. We have become too predictable, as oppositions just sat in CE, and nullified him.

He is not good enough for RM, Barca, or Juve.

I absolutely agree. When its easy he does well.He takes what they give him and is a victim when they don't give him. He cant dig deeper than that.
He would also work better in a ticky tack team that do 1000 short passes. We need more REAL CREATIVITY making things happen when they are not always there. Ive never really been a fan of Eriksen because he too often takes the easy route

“Atrocious”... this is easily the dumbest thread on this whole site.

In a game where we gave up 30 shots you all thought "oh I know, Eriksen was a main culprit of that. Let's go talk a bunch of shit about him."

I would like to remind you all that the thing Eriksen is absolutely amazing at is finding runners and putting people through on goal. We had one of those players on the pitch for 55 min in Kane. Lamela wants the ball at his feet, he doesn't try to make runs behind the defense. After Lucas' goal we hardly had the ball outside of our own half.

Did he play great? No, none of our attackers did. But they also hardly got the ball and were completely isolated when they did.
