Eriksen and Lo Celso can play in a 3 man midfield

Son and Moura would likely be rotation strikers

Lamela has so far been a good squad player that hasn't kicked up a fuss when not playing.

Yeah, agree. As I said I think that’s a big plus for Lamela.

Son is no fucking way going to take a rotational role. He’ll be putting in a transfer request at the end of the season.

I do agree that he needs competition, but to spend £60-70 million on a player that wouldn’t start (in my opinion) is hefty old price when we are looking to improve other areas. I struggle to see with Eriksen, Son, Alli, N’Dombele, Winks, Sissoko and Lucas where he fits.

He'd start a lot of games. If we want to compete with Man City we need a squad where we aren't going to see a drop in quality when we swap players around.

(Going by CL registration as that’s stricter re Foyth and Davies) At this point, with the players who’ve been released and the knowledge that Janssen and Nkoudou have no part to play, we have 16 non HGs who would be registered. If Eriksen is in fact staying, and it looks like Toby is too, then that leaves space for one more. Suddenly the itk that stated ‘Lo Celso, Ndombele and the Sessegnons in regardless, then it’s a case of one in, on out’ looks spot on.

The only concern there is who replaces Llorente and Vorm? I guess we might make do without a Llorente replacement - Son isn't off to an International tournament this season and obvioulsy Moura can play there now and maybe Parrott can step up. That leaves the keeper role, so hopefully we get a homegrown player for that spot.

Great news if it happens! If he was given the option of staying in London to recover, I doubt he’d have gone on the trip if his head was gone. Club have also had him in a lot of social media pics. Fingers crossed!

It’s about keeping top players happy though and as great a motivator as Poch is he ain’t going to be keeping Moura or whoever happy if they’re not even making the bench. I doubt any of them will be happy with extended periods on the bench either.

The reason why city can keep them happy is coz they pay them a shit load.
But the point is there will always be injuries and if we're competing on all fronts there will be plenty of opportunities for all.

Whilst some players will be motivated by a higher salary, some players will be motivated by the fight to play in big games - which is what the club will be aiming to have.

I'll reserve judgement for a while, we've all applied for jobs we really want only to be turned down and getting motivated at your existing job is tough.

The fact he divides opinion on here says everything, nobody ever doubted our real top players such as Bale, Modric and Berbatov
I agree that opinion is divided on Eriksen - who played in 51 games for us last season after playing into Round of 16 of the World Cup.
And whilst we all recall the Bale, Madrid and Berbatov times fondly - make no mistake that all three were criticised by Spurs fans when they played for us.

Bale was easy for the first 3 seasons with us.
Modric never scored enough goals.
Berbatov scored 2 in his first 14 league starts and was lazy.

Attacking statistics massively support his importance at Spurs and whilst accepting he often looked off colour and anonymous in games, he wasn't really afforded any squad competition nor was he rested last term. I think he's in his prime and with the right players around him, he could have a really brilliant future with us, if he stayed.

He's talking to Fiorentina so i imagine we have told him we will be covered, by son/moura and possibly Parrott. Wanyama can't pass a medical so money back on him is difficult to gauge.
Just a news came on Llorente. Club apparently offered him a 1 yr extension on reduced wages...I think he stays

There needs to be a bit of a mentality shift from players on the bench. In rugby, the ones on the bench are referred to as 'finishers' and are just as important as those on the pitch. As long as they all get their chance they need to accept that it's a game for the whole squad, otherwise the bench will always be full of inferior players. Plenty of rotation is the key to keeping them all happy, hopefully.

Not always, look at Liverpool last season. Salah, Mane and Firmino barely missed a game through injury. Imagine if they had Moura, Son and Lo Celso inntgeir squad too.

We always seem to pick up a lot though.

Well obviously I hope you're right but the big clubs are in for the best players and he's discovered they don't want him, as you say in his prime. There's a tendency for fans to over-rate their own players, Eriksen is good but a fair way off the elite.

Poch only ever really seems to rotate the back 4, though. You could argue the reason why he doesn’t rotate Eriksen or Alli is coz he’s never felt he’s had adequate replacements in the squad to do it but I think he just absolutely loves Son, Eriksen and Alli.

Clarke could have been indirectly the Llorente replacement so it baffles me as to why we would loan him back to Leeds if no other forward is coming in

Open the thread, see he's training alone. Give up hope.

Then the goat ITK.

It's the hope that kills.
Snap, saw the footage of him training alone and my heart sank, the ITK has given me hope though.

Personally would love him to stay as he’s top quality and would always rather have proven quality than the money

It will be interesting to see how Mane copes this season. He's still on AFCON duty three weeks before the start of their season.

I’m over his crap performances at the end of the season now. In May, I would of been happy for him to go.

Now I want him to stay. So long as Lo Celso signs to push him to fight for his place.

We would still need a new right back and a fast attacker. But we wouldn’t be too far away from challenging.

We’ve got Son and Lucas as the fast attackers

Basically answered your own question :)

Re GK, it’d be mental to bring in a non HG third choice. Re Llorente, if we have Kane, Son, Lucas, Dele, Lamela, Lo Celso, Eriksen and Parrott to make up the numbers, then that’s 7 established players and a very highly rated yoof for 4 positions in a 4231, or 3 in a 433/343, all of whom but Eriksen have at least some experience playing up front. In fact, Lo Celso, according to who scored, mainly started at CM last season but also started up front 6 times, scoring 4 goals from those starts.

While I am sure we're all happy with this news, firstly I'll wait to see if the details of his contract come out, then also see if we add to squad even with him staying.

Lastly, he courted this move away from Spurs 'for a new challenge' to either Barca or Real and it means they were never that interested. I love it when a fall back plan comes together ...

Not sure whether this has been mentioned, but Poch in press conference said CE training alone as he's had a small procedure done? So doesn't seem to be anything negative (or at least doesn't come across that way)

I love how everyone lists out all our players and questions who will play and where. How many times last season did we have everyone available? Once? Twice? We need a group of 20 players that are all good enough to play and ensure the quality doesn’t drop. Would also allow us to play those in form rather than keep playing the likes of Ali when he is totally off it

I’d rather it was both

I think it has to be both. We need a strong subs bench. We need to think like Man City and Liverpool and Man U of old. Not the best 11 approach. We also need players to suit the two styles of play that we need to adopt for the top teams and the also rans in the premier league

I think CE said what he did in the hope RM or Barca would automatically swoop in. This didn't happen so he's staying put.
