If a lot of this relies on Hazard them I'm pretty confident. No way he stays at Chelsea if they finish 5th after what he's already said/hinted. Plus he fits their style more

There is something different about the team and the consistency we crave is becoming a reality, and he seems integral to all of that. I really hope he stays as i can see him improving and having a greater part in our success.

We've said for years Eriksen is the player who most makes us tick and the player we've most desperately needed a backup for. Dele is the player after him I expect has the highest sale/covet factor (when you include his marketability). Despite lots of our claims that the best teams don't sell their best players the reality is the best teams sell their best players and continue to be the best because they plan accordingly. When Eriksen is at his best on the pitch you can see the difference in how we function. It's a skillset I don't think we can replace without downgrading and can only hope if he leaves we buy equal quality elsewhere and the team reworks itself to make that fit

Obviously there is no replacing Eriksen and I don’t mean to imply that the world will keep spinning and the team is capable of moving on etc, etc, so this is maybe the wrong time and place to mention this, but perhaps worth at least noting before everyone jumps off a bridge that Winks and Kane are academy boys (and Skippy already looks awfully composed for his age) and that Paris Maghoma is a really funky kid with some silky movement and passing who has trained with the first team and wears the #10 pretty impressively. There’s some tape of his game against Barca for the U19s floating around the internet if you care to watch and he has been similarly impressive in other games at U23 (7 goals in 18 games across multiple levels U18 and U19 and U23 this season) and I’d love to see Poch give him some minutes in the cup and take him on tour in the summer. He’s a different type of player than we’ve had in the last few years, built more solidly than Edwards and unlike Onomah seems a natural 10 who always looks to carry or play the ball forward.

What a shit situation, just before we move into the new stadium.

It’s easy to say there’s nothing we can do. We have no replacement in the squad even half as good as our succession planning has been non existent in this regard. That’s something pro active we could have done which at least would have made it less of a blow to our whole team.

Things are obviously good at the moment, but the thought that despite a potentially successful season we could lose arguably our most influential player and even our manager in the summer is quite depressing.

There's been no succession planning for Dembele it appears either.

We've known about his injuries and dwindling contract for a while.

I expect that player by the summer window at the latest.

I don't think either Poch or Levy are idiots so I have to believe they know what they are doing. Perhaps they believe we have very good players coming through and/or have found we can't get better players to join us just yet and will not buy for the sake of buying as some on SC seem to want to do ?

Whilst I agree with that we must scout better.

This cannot be an excuse.

We appear to have pursued Aurier over Perriera and chased Grealish over Maddison.

I'm well aware there could of been reasons for this (KWP being of similar build and technique as Perriera and Leicester giving Maddison the number 10 shirt).

My point is there are players out there that can improve our squad and even first 11. We need to identify and bring them in. It's as simple as that.

Could just keep him, if he doesn’t sign then let him leave for free. Will we be writing off a £100m+ player, or will we have extracted 7 years of service from a phenomenal player having paid £10m in transfer fee and £25m-£30m in wages?

Never gonna happen in a million years. If he doesn't sign a new contract soon or in the summer, he's off. Levy would never let him leave on a free..no way.

It's not that simple. Any money we get will go towards replacing him, if we don't then when he leaves on a free we have a gaping hole and no money to go towards filling it unless we sell elsewhere

It just kicks the can down the road and puts us in a more difficult position both financially and progressively 18 months from now.

My concern is that happens and we actually have no choice and little leverage in the matter. If Real spend big on Hazard and say Neymar, then they will probably wait another 12 months to take Eriksen on a free. I can't see us forcing him elsewhere either especially if he can get his dream move on mega wages 12 months later. It's not as if we can threaten to phase him out of the team either as he's too good and has been nothing but professional.

There are players in the world who will improve our usual first eleven but not many and even less who will join us over the likes off the Petro dollar clubs and RM or Barca.

Agree about Maddison though. If it were up to me and if Eriksen is going I would push the boat out for Maddison. He has the personality that reminds me of Dele Alli and will be a big star in the PL. it was a bad miss IMO not getting him last summer unless of course Poch knows something about him we don’t know.

Gutted, absolutely gutting news....
Eriksen is our maestro and replacing him will be extremely difficult as Levy doesn't spend that sort of money on a player we will need to replace him. yes we should get c 80-100 m (last year of contract) but we must invest all that on 1 player to replace him, got to go all out for De Jong IMO, get that done in Jan and let Eriksen go in summer.
Toby & Eriksen in the same summer, that is going to hurt :(

I don't want to lose Eriksen, but to be fair if we could get Isco in return then that would certainly soften the blow.

So it could be Dembele, Toby, Eriksen and Poch in one Summer...:yuck:

Lets hope we have some good plans in place
This is actually another big concern with Eriksen leaving. It only piles up the work needing to be done in the summer, and Eriksen's replacement will also need the most attention.

With Eriksen, Toby, Dembele, Wanyama, Llorente potentially going, we're going to need 4 players to stay as we are never mind improve. If Eriksen is off, then we need to do something in January or the Summer will be very stressful. It's been fruitful getting Lucas in last January, so we really should push the boat out to get at least get one in.

Are there even any rumours of Real wanting him? Could understand his position if they were all over him, but given how it’s so quiet, this just seems really disloyal. Surprised Poch hasn’t ostracised him like Walker and Alderweireld.
You'd think Marca would start saying things if they did want him.

Don’t get me wrong I think he’s a fantastic player and is brilliant for us but one small crumble of hope is that maybe RM ( especially their fans ) don’t think he’s that elite player level and perhaps a step below so he won’t be at the top of their list.
