I hope he stays and signs a new deal. I cannot believe how bitter and twisted some of our fans have become towards him. To critisize him so harshly after how many times he has got us points almost single handedly is utterly stupid.

It would be great if he did stay. He will stay this window I reckon but I would be very surprised if he signs a new contract now. Taking off my Spurs goggles, he has no incentive to sign a new deal as he will do very well out of being a free agent.

Not that I completely disagree, but he has one incentive - playing for Spurs.

Hardly a given that he will end up being a key player for a better team than us.

He would obviously make more money elsewhere, but no-one is thinking he is going to China so money might not be his only motivation (yes - I am aware he has said he wants something "new" - so maybe he goes to Spain making less than he would for us - who knows).

I fear the worse when CE isn't in the team. He is integral to it. More so than most others. Whether GLC can help us change remains to be seen.

As an aside, all good (great?) teams find a way of nullifying the oppositions better players. Is it not possible that City also did that on Saturday?

Eriksen really appears to be marmite in here now.

Have enjoyed him at the club, he has been perfect for what we were, maybe now as we have progressed he may just not be what we want, perhaps we should hanker after the KDB's of the world. Maybe we have them now in the form of TN and GLC .

imo it is both time for the player and the club for Eriksen to find pastures new, with a thank you from me for the last 6 years.

I think the issue is more around the fact that clearly CE has been angling for a move for a while and therefore has unsurprisingly not been at his best for a while.

Yes, absolutely... a "motivated to stay", Spurs focussed CE is a gem worth having, no doubt... but if there is doubt, is it not more prudent for the immediate to sell CE now whilst we still can rather than risk him leaving on a free.

"But another season could..." But it likely won't. He will be good in certain matches, see Villa, but in others? That is why we bought GLC and why we were keen on Dybala.

We need consistency, we need players who we can count on to at least give their all, even when their all perhaps in that moment isn't good enough.

With Christian I am just not convinced we are getting his all, and I understand that, I do. Not as a well paid footballer, but just someone who has wanted to leave a company, but wasn't sure how or really if, you're mind just isn't always on the job, it can't be.

So, I for one bear CE no ill will, I hope he has a great career whatever he decides to do, it just needs to be done with, one way or another. This uncertainty isn't good for anyone, not club, not player and not fan base.

Hope we keep him but if he wants off there is little point of hanging on to him. We then need to get the money and invest it wisely. I was gutted when Modric left as for me he was the player who could take us to another level by being the fulcrum of any team. But we more than survived as we did when Bale went. So I remain optimistic as long as we resolve the outstanding issues and don't leave them hanging over us all season

I still wish he'll sign a new contract, but losing him for free after 10 months of hate on here would be unbearable.

Not the end of the world for us if he is sold for 40m or whatever. That is hopefully money enough to bring in an excellent CD next summer (or at least a good way).

And pretty much every other team for most of the second half of last season?

Initially this seemed pretty simple to me, if he's still here past the close of the TW but he won't sign a new deal then we need to look to drop him from the starting lineup and start focusing on how we'll play without him, e.g. incorporating Lo Celso more.

......then I stopped and thought about it some more.

The problem with my initial view is that we'd be cutting off our nose to spite our face. If he's gonna leave on a free then we may as well make peace with it and play him - assuming he still shows the same committment to play hard all season for us. His value to the team on the pitch is clear and if he helps us win then we crack on, try and win a trophy and then part ways at the end of the season knowing he gave us 7 years of amazing service. At that point we head into the summer potentially knowing we need a like for like replacement and make that our number 1 target.

.....problem with my 2nd take...... we're potentially going to need a top level CB (or 2 if Jan AND Toby leave), maybe a LB and RB as well!?

In summary, I have no idea.

If he stays, I see no reason for him not to be committed and want to play well. Right now it is rough because of all the rumors, true or not. In the US, in order for players to become a free agent, players have to honor their contracts. That is expected and does not really affect the current season as both the team and player want to win now and the contract issues will be handled after the season. If he wants to run out his contract I do not see any issue as he has been a great servant of the club and been well worth the money we have spent on him to this point regardless if we receive anything in return.

Sorry not able to find this amidst all the arguments but do we have any latest ITK on his situation?

Thanks.

For sure - anything is possible. I hope that he does realise that he has a good opportunity to win things at Spurs even if he could earn more elsewhere.

Basically I want him to stay if he signs a new contract and plays his bestest like a good boi. If he isn't signing get rid asap as another year of half arsed tackles and his head in the clouds and not on a football I just cannot take. Being a game changer against Aston Villa isn't enough... It's fucking Aston Villa!! If we cannot beat them without him we have serious shit to address.

His head hasn't been in it for a long long while, imo. I keep thinking back to the CL semi final, we'd just got that last gasp win over Ajax and he looked really miserable. All he seemed to want to talk about was how gutted he felt for the Ajax players. No euphoria about making the CL final at all.
