Player watch: Christian Eriksen

I personally believe that any player who is our creative midfielder, in a team where we dominate the majority of the match against most opponents, while taking almost all set pieces, should be putting up ridiculously good stats. Eriksen has Kane, Son, Dele, Lamela and Moura around him, these are all guys that are going to finish your chances.

I remember thinking to myself after one of the many thousand 4-0s we had over Stoke in which I believe he scored twice and had two assists just how great he is when teams offer him that space although I can't help but feel he is very ineffective against teams that park the bus, which is when we need him most.

We could sit here and debate what consistency means to each of us but I feel like we see the polar opposites with Eriksen too often. He could easily have a 3 game spell where he doesn't beat the first man with a cross but then the next 3 games he's looking like an absolute world beater. Obviously no player is going to play well every game but for me it's that seeming lack of commitment to being the world beater Eriksen every week that irks me the most.

I really dislike the bloke ever since he dived for a pen against us many years ago but when you look at how Ronaldo has turned the ability he had into being one of the top players ever you can really see the desire that some people want it and other wants it more. I think that CE's performances for Denmark compared to those for us say a lot about him.
Think we will just have to agree to disagree here. Considering how often he plays for us Vs Denmark it's not surprising that he will more dips in form for us.

I'm not sure I have ever seen him have a 3 game spell where he doesn't beat a first man with a cross but maybe I'm not keeping as avid a watch.

Teams that park the bus are notoriously hard to beat full stop. Lets ignore the fact that a lot of teams struggle to score against teams that park the bus and just look at the last game we played Vs someone who did against us....Newcastle. Eriksen played 6 key passes and had 109 touches during the game.

Finally I think you again lose credibility when you constantly move the goalposts in your argument. First saying he doesn't match up to Silva, Hazard or DeBruyne when he clearly does, then going on to compare him to Ronaldo which, is basically using the best player in the world as a yard stick to prove a point that you were never making in the first place.

I'll leave this discussion here for now I think.

I'm not obliged to love any player that plays for us but first of all whether you believe me or not I've only ever been vocally supportive of our players at matches and what I post on forums is completely irrelevant to that. A lot of speculation and assumption in your post about what I do at matches and how I go about supporting the players, if that's what you're trying to call me out for.

Hazard hasn't been as consistent as Eriksen? And I get called the troll on here. When you consider the strikers Hazard plays with, the managerial changes, the way that the players around him down tools every other seasons I really don't see how this one can even be argued but let's agree to disagree.

Tbh I really couldn't care less what you think of me. I can't be arsed to go back through my posts but I guarantee you will have hand selected specific ones to suit your agenda, there will be plenty of times where I credit Eriksen's ability, that has never ever been questioned. He is overrated by our fans, he will not end up at Madrid in my opinion, let's leave it at that.

The hyperbole from our fans is why I post. One of the posts the other day labelled him as "criminally underrated". Does anyone on this forum seriously think he's criminally underrated? Seriously?

I've seen him labelled as more important to us than Harry Kane. Really? We should be more upset if Eriksen leaves over Kane?

I remember in the ratings thread no matter how poorly Eriksen played Bus Conductor would find a way to praise him. "He completed more 5-10 yard passes in the right corner of the final third during minutes 61-70 than any other player on the pitch". DTX seems to have taken over as that guy.

If you lot think I'm trolling then fair enough but I've mostly just been arguing against what I see as complete blind praise for a player that is very good but not world class.
I didn't say you need to love our players just support them, your terminology for our fans actually backing one of our own players calling them Eriksen lovers annoyed me as it's stupid, it's akin to when fellow Spurs fans used to call other fans Lamela fan boys for having the sheer audacity to back one of our very own players and seeing as we're all supporters and fans of this club and our players the term doesn't make any sense to me.

So that makes 2 of us guilty of speculating and assumptions, I can only take you off face value on this site and every time you pop up on her it's always to have a sly dig at him or make a sarcastic comment..the proof is in the pudding with your comments about him where you have constantly criticised him...it's honestly just a weird obsession and it seems like you get off digging him out which I'd probably one of the reasons you're seen as a troll.

The problem with you is something I've seen before many times with people on forums/twitter who get into these long standing debates/arguments about players, you're so so desperate to have your opinion vindicated about a player you will go to any lengths to discredit them constantly moving goalposts, creating straw men, ignoring facts that don't support your argument...the fact you mentioned that he should be like Ronaldo in your last post...I just lol'd so hard, incredibly predictable and tiresome.

I can't even be bothered to get into the Hazard thing but you're ready to roll out the exuces for him and at the same time jump on Eriksen as if both players played for oppesite sides tells me all I need to know...can you see why I question your support now?

Also Eriksen being out most important player is an entirely valid one, the team have struggled when he's not on the pitch because we play through him which has happened many times, the fact that we are still winning games without Kane (our record is W9 D3 L1) without him means he's not as important to our style of play unlike Eriksen.

Eriksen is amazing!

He works his socks off, and intercepts where others tackle.

His corners are a worry, but I think people misunderstands this a bit:

If Poch and the crew were unhappy with his corners, we have 9 others who could step in to do it.

I think it’s mostly a rehearsed routine, where Toby/Dier is supposed to beat the first man and score. If they don’t - the first man clears it and It looks silly.

Don’t you believe that someone with Eriksens qualities would beat the first man if that was his main objective?

I'm at a loss if people can't see what Eriksen brings to this team.

Still...about opinions right.

Nothing else to add really, stats are there if I need them. I don't, I engage my brain and use my eyes.

Feckin player.

This thread is getting ridiculous, nobody on here is slagging Eriksen off or hoping he leaves its just some disagree regarding his relative importance to the team.

I always wonder why people get personal when discussing the merits of a footballer.

"You know nothing"
"You're not a fan"

People have different opinions, some need to grow up a bit.
This.

You can argue points about a player’s merits without having to get personal.

There is a small handful of present players we've been extremely fortunate to have. On the top of that list is obviously Kane. Following him, Lloris, Vertonghen, and most certainly Eriksen.

This. Does ppl actually think he's that bad that he can't make a corner to the back post? He's probaly told to put the ball at the front post.

Have you seen any of our corner goals for the last 3-4 seasons? It has been at the front post.

Near post corners are low risk, chances are they are blocked or cleared out for another corner or a throw in, far post corners carry higher risk because there's a chance of the keeper catching it and the the other team going on the counter, this of course doesn't excuse the amount of poor corners that Eriksen takes but it does go some way to explain it.

The fact that he is constantly on corners tells you that he's really good at them in training and the management/team trust him more than anyone else and the fact that whipped corners aren't as easy as they sound, the amount of other fans that go on about professional footballer being unable to bat a man at the near post is more than you think.

Oh how droll. I knew I would log in to find such comments because we have scored from a corner once. In other news Lloris is now the world's best penalty saver after his one save on Sunday.

It's utterly baffling which Eriksen some people must see. Yes he had a good 2nd half but the hyperbole in this thread is beyond belief. Jan was amazing today, Son has been amazing recently, Sissoko has been amazing relatively speaking this season but I wouldn't in any sense of the imagination label Eriksen as amazing unless we're discussing form in 2014-16 maybe.

I'll never forget a 1-0 victory over Palace at home a few seasons back where Eriksen made like a 5 yard pass to Son who ran with the ball 30 yards then scored his first goal for us. Someone (can't remember who) on here was praising Eriksen like he'd cured cancer while passing the ball. I've had my fun in this thread, I'll leave you guys to fight over Chris's soggy biscuit.

I’ve stopped coming to the Christian Eriksen thread recently due to your constant really boring negative anti Eriksen narrative.
It used to be an interesting thread but you’ve killed it, well done.

Thought he was very good last night, yes the free kick was tame but he mixed up his corners and his overall play was excellent. Best game he's had in ages.
