Well by the looks of that article, we’re only looking at De Jong as an Eriksen replacement?
According to ITK we was interested in the summer regardless but he didn't wanna come to us. With that said I hope this is a new development and Jose goes to Madrid so Eriksen is put off the idea. Admittedly I've spun a lot of plates to get to that scenario.

Probably a decent amount of fanfiction here as it obviously differs from a lot of our UK sources and ITK on the issue but never the less:

Eriksen-Spurs deal unlikely, Madrid could be "first option", says source

The signing of Christian Eriksen continues to look like a very real possibility for Real Madrid. According to what AS has learnt, the player is a long way from agreeing a new deal with Tottenham, with his current contract set to expire in June, 2020.

Talks between Spurs and Eriksen began some time ago, but have come to little fruition. And a source close to the player has told AS that there is “nothing optimistic” and a renewal agreement will be “very, very difficult” to reach at this point.

But the possibility of a January move to the Bernabéu is at “0.1%”, according to the source, as Spurs coach Mauricio Pochettino would not allowa key figure to leave with the last 16 of the Champions League around the corner and while the club is in the middle of a battle to secure a top-four spot in the Premier League.

As reported by AS last week, Madrid have already asked Spurs to name their price for the Danish striker, to which the London club responded by demanding 250 million euros.

But time is playing into the hands of the LaLiga club, as Spurs president Daniel Levy will be conscious of running the risk of Eriksen leaving on a free transfer when his contract ends in a year and a half.

The source close to the Dane considers it the right time for him take a step up in his career by joining one of Europe’s top clubs, and estimates that his price tag will be between 50 and 75 million pounds (56 million to 84 million euros).

As revealed by British daily The Independent, Spurs and Madrid are already speaking of a figure of around 100 million pounds, although Los Blancos will be aware of the difficulties negotiating with Spurs president Levy can entail.

The Eriksen source revealed to AS that the Danish international "sees Madrid as a very big club. For him it would be a great honour to play in the Bernabéu. When we talk about great clubs, of course we talk about Madrid. It could be the first option.”

AS also spoke to his agent Martin Schoots, who chose not to comment on the situation, only saying that Eriksen would prefer to “focus on his football” and “we’ll see what the future brings”.

De Jong and David Brooks in for Eriksen out.

Now I just need to find a replacement/back up for Kane

Hmmmm

No bones about it losing Eriksen and Toby this summer will be a big blow. I suppose we just need to make sure we have Champions League for next season whilst they’re still here.

Would massively help with the replacement drive

you've already played in the bernabeu. pipe down and sign the contract.

when has the valuation of a 'source close to the' player who wants out and levy's valuation ever matched? if eriksen wants out this summer, even with just the year left on the deal, it'll treble that source's valuation. i'm doubtful they'll match levy's figure, whatever that may be, when they clearly need so much more than a modric replacement. hazard and salah fit the galactico mould better than eriksen, and those types offer the goal threat they need in the post-ronaldo era.

I do think Eriksen would come in and probably be the best of the bunch at Madrid given Modrics form this season. He and Kroos would be neck and neck.. would be a hell of a duo. But Madrid are absolutely stacked in midfield.. Kroos, Modric, Isco, Ceballos, two youngsters coming into the team, Casemiro, Llorente.. Then they've got Kovacic and James coming back in from loan. They need forwards and wingers.

But I still can see why they would want Eriksen as he's absolutely incredible.

Don't think James and Kovacic will come back tbh ... I get your point, but as you said - Eriksen would be their best midfielder atm imo

The only deal I would take would involve £100mill and Isco.. That makes a lot of sense.

But then, ya know? Jadon Sancho.

Find it a little baffling that all our players worked their arses off through the difficult years of WHL becoming a building site, the intended full season at Wembley and then this year, and kept us competitive throughout, and then so many want to scarper just as the plan comes together.

Realise some of these are players we're looking to move on now, for one reason or another, but, well, life as a Tottenham fan, hey? It's the hope etc...

P.s. Eriksen's agent can shut the fuck up if he's briefing the press at this point of the season when we need everyone to band together. Utter cockwomble.

Ok, dilemma time.
If Real came in now with the sort of bid that allowed us to bring in two high calibre players, one in CM (Rabiot/De Jong/Grillitsch/Zakaria) and a Forward (Werner/Sanabria//Malcom), plus maybe a little extra cash left over as a sweetener to secure someone with potential for the summer, Maja, Berge, Bowen or such like

Would you take that?

Perhaps a little flexibility needed there, if we went bigger on CM with De Jong, May have to reign back CF to Sanabria, or alternatively if Rabiot is £10m ish, then Werner could be doable.
Not like for like trades there for Eriksen, but if it allowed us to add a little more depth and balance???
