Wasn't the entire team a bit shit in the first part of the season? I think Eriksen gets quite a lot of the blame for that first two months for some reason. Many were below average, including Dele as far as I remember.. But fair enough, Eriksen wasn't good in the first two months and when Eriksen isn't playing well then we are usually struggling - but doesn't that paint a picture of his importance..?

I don't agree with that opinion to be honest. I think if anything, I would say Eriksen let us down. When we had injuries etc we still had players like Son come in and do the business. Wanyama has been solid throughout. Same with Dembele. Dele has been very good throughout the season and our defense has been solid pretty much throughout the season too. The thing that strikes me is Eriksen has taken a third of the season to get going and another third to hit top form, whereas you cant say the same about the others I mentioned. Kane as an example hasn't had the greatest of seasons, has been out injured but when he's come back he's still scored, and my point is bar interruptions he's still produced the goods. Eriksen has not been injured nor had to take a month out like Kane, Toby, Rose, Dembele etc and all those players have still had stand out seasons whereas Eriksen has not imho.
I would have opted for him if he had been an ever-present reliable player who has shone regardless, and he hasnt - and with that in mind he certainly doesn't get my vote.

In fact, I would say he's been one of our underperforming players this season based on my feelings of how he should have performed. And not to put it bluntly, but even Poch alluded to it earlier in the season too when he said he expects more from Eriksen.

He's created more chances this season than any player in Europe. Became the first player in Europe to register 20 assists. Chipped in with 8 goals and sits 1 behind Kane in our total goals and assists rankings. How does that make him one of our "underperforming players this season"?

No votes for Dier I see, doesn't grab any headlines but he's a big reason as to why we're able to change from a back 4 to a back 3 effortlessly. Never injured (touch wood) and hardly picks up bookings. I may vote for him just to show my appreciation.

Eriksen having a poor first few months of the season is a myth that really needs to die, he had a couple of average games but there were some matches he played very well in (Stoke, Arsenal, Chelsea, Gillingham) The problem for some people now is that he's playing up to a world class level and showing frightening consistency and people are judging that against his form before December.

Would have been Rose had he not got injured. I think we've got 4 world class players at our club. Toby, Kane, Hugo and Rose(name a better wing back, see, you can't).

Alli, Eriksen, Verts are almost in that bracket, bit more consistency is all that's needed.

But player of the season... Probably Mr Tottenham himself. Harry Kane. He's so good I think we're almost taking him for granted these days.

Marcelo, Alex Sandros, David Alaba ;)

It has to be Dele Alli for me.

Bear in mind he is our highest goalscorer in the league if you take away penalties. Yup, even more than Kane.

And this coming from an advanced midfield role, not as a main striker.

True, goals alone should not be the yardstick but surely, surely immense recognition is imperative if its from a midfielder.

Dele Alli for me.
That's why I ultimately voted Dele, but bloody hell, I feel dirty for not voting for Jan, Vic, Christian, Harry, Etc... team effort.

Well done Poch, long may it continue.

Victor
First season fitted straight in and strengthened the team.
And he likes spaghetti.

Alex Sandro's I'll give you... Do the other 2 ever actually have to defend?:D

Anyway, honestly would rather have Danny. Obviously.

Ahh you should watch these guys play, they are both perfect modern day wing backs. Rose best in the prem though

It's funny that so many people are saying Eriksen clearly player of the season. Go back 3-4 months in his player thread and that certainly wasn't the sentiment...

So much Eriksen revisionism in this thread.

How many of the 152 (so far) voters, were also desperate for us to replace him with Isco in January.

He's been phenomenal second half of the season, but others have played at a more consistent level. Namely Jan and Big Vic.

I'm not sure that you can just look at consistency though. Vic and Jan don't get double marked in games to try and stop them playing their natural game. Sometimes as an attacking player it's just about trying to find that one big moment that can change a game - which is why I voted for Dele.

I love the guy but it's funny how many turncoats there are on this forum. If I could be bothered I would cross reference those saying he's been player of the season here with what they were saying a few months ago in the Eriksen thread...

Waynama for me, came in and has been consistent every game, couldn't ask for more from a DM. Verts has been outstanding as well, better than Toby for me and that is saying something.

Eriksen has been amazing last few months but this is the player of the season award so big Victor gets my vote.

We've had the best defense in league all season and Vertonghen has been our best defender. He's had an outstanding season.
