Makes you wonder where our club would be had he not scored that goal at the Etihad in 2010.
That was the catalyst for everything that has followed.
I’d go with Jol getting us back into Europe.

Either way, surprised he’s retiring. Half expected us to be linked to him as a back up striker when I saw the thread bump. Hell of a career. Still remember seeing him as a 15 year old thinking he was just a bit of a freak. I was right in a way, but he owned it. Top bloke and obviously can’t go without saying... ‘Good feet for a big lad’.

Huge personality of our game, he'll go on to have a great career in the media. I was at the San Siro when he slotted the winner after Azza's run, brilliant memory so thank you Crouchy!

Fair play. He's had a much better career than I think he gets credit for due to looking a bit awkward on TV. Always seems like a top bloke and was apparently good mates with Ledley when they were at the academy together so that must count for something. Wish him all the best

He should do a documentary where he follows some players round for two weeks at a time during the season, to get a look inside their work and personal life. Think he would have some decent connections and the ability to get the players talking openly. I'm trying to think of a punny name but nothing is coming to mind.

You're thinking about it too logically. It's easier to come up with a pun first and work backwards from there to work out what the show would be about.

He should make his own version of Gogglebox but where he's the only person. Obviously, this would be called "Crouch Potato".

When a 38 year old football player retires you wouldn't normally be surprised but this still came as a surprise. Good luck to him though and I suspect we will still see him around as I'd guess he'll get a gig on the television somewhere.

I'll always remember him for his time on loan at IFK Hassleholm.

Obvious headline for the tabloids:

Crouch End for former Tottenham and England striker ?

42 England caps. And banged a few goals in. Fair play to him. Funny bloke as well.

Agreed. I’ll bet the fans of every team groaned when they found out they were signing him (because he looked so ungainly) but everyone loved him while was playing there. Podcast is great!

I've always admired him as a bloke and as a professional but I think he was very limited as a player and a tactic of desperation. I got fed up with hearing about his goal record for England, to me it was similar to Nigel Benn's record against Mexican road sweepers. When he was playing for us I supported him from terraces but felt like we were playing a man down. Fantastic bloke but not an elite footballer.

Always had crouchie as the number one footballer I would like to have a slew of beers with. Great person and certainly forced teams to reconsider their game plans. The movement across the box on the man city goal was pure class.

He was really good on that mental health programme with Prince William too. Spoke about how he used humour as a defence mechanism against people taking the piss out of his looks.

Besides that, he just seems a really nice guy (apart from the sleeping with prostitutes when married), almost too nice to be a footballer.
