Sadly it might be better for lad. I hate seeing players struggle.

A loan deal? They can go do one at least give us back half of what we paid and stop pretending to be poor when we know you have at least £16m

A loan deal doesn't make a great deal of sense, unless it's to a European team whereby he could actually persuade someone that he's worth a reasonable chunk of money. I think we're going to have to accept that we're not going to get more than £10-12m for him sadly.

Massively disappointed with him (and a few other signings too). He was excellent in the last Coppa America. It really felt that we were getting some quality players in the door last summer. I know he's been played out of position and doesn't always get a start, but if he had real quality, surely it would shine through when he does play?!

As unfulfilling as he's been, at least he popped up with the odd goal. We could do with a few of them these days.

He has scored six in thirty games for us from midfield and though not prolific, aside from Eriksen who else is going to score from that area?

I'd hate to see him go and it's funny how Lamela get's some leniency on here over his performances yet Paulinho doesn't?

I'd say that both so far have been underwhelming and need more time to settle. Thirty games (for Paulinho) is hardly a fair measure to assess his ability. Didn't Bale feature in twenty two games without being on the winning side?

Massive dissapointment

Compared to who in our current side?

From the seven brought in by Baldini Eriksen and Chadli have both been playing well, but have had a long run in the first team.

I could name three or four players that i see as being more of a "massive disappointment" than Paulinho.

Out of his gang of 7, which was what I was thinking about actually, i'd say I'm only dissapointed in him really. Oh & Chiriches too. Soldado borderline & Chadli, Lamela, Eriksen I'm happy with

For Soldado not to be included as a disappointment i find quite funny. At the end of the day from midfield Paulinho has scored more than Soldado from open play, and certainly more than Lamela (though he has played more games). He's worth keeping in my opinion as a defensive and attacking box to box player who can score goals. I can't say he same about Lennon, Townsend, Capoue (who is playing well) Dembele and Mason (who has been exceptional so far).

At the end of the day it depends what you look for from our midfielders but one things for sure, to throw away a goal scoring (in our side) box to box midfielder when we have only scored ten goals all season (four in one game) seems plain stupid?

Where are you going to play the box-to-box midfielder? You are essentially limited to replacing Eriksen, Mason, or Capoue.

It does not make sense to replace any of those guys with Paulinho in the starting XI. Eriksen plays the AM role better than Paulinho. Capoue is a much better defensive midfielder - suitable for the CM-2 role. That leaves just Mason - and we have Dembele and Bentaleb to also consider for playing time at that position (and that assumes Stambouli is a replacement for Capoue).

So, Paulinho is left with being a replacement for Eriksen - but if we bring in someone who can play on the wing, then Lamela would be a suitable replacement for Eriksen in the event of an injury or suspension. By the time January gets here, we will be (hopefully) in the knockout stages for Europa, and I expect to see the regulars getting more game time rather than a complete rotation - so Paulinho is not even guaranteed game time in Europa past January. Not the end of the world for Paulinho to move on here.

I've not given up on him yet, though it gets harder to defend him.

We still haven't seen him properly in the league this season yet. Also, and I hope this gets conveyed to the so called B team who play in the Europa, that some of these guys who play on Thursdays (if not all of them) have a great chance to become legends.

I know we're not going to win the Europa and we'll probably change our team once/if we get to the latter stages but I for one think that it's our best chance of getting CL next year. Who knows Paulinho might impress in the cups if he's not impressing in training enough to get a league start.

Hmm is that right? Wow, shows how little we've scored for me to even consider that i suppose. I mean last season was beyond a joke.

With regards to your other points, he's supposed to be an established international and Lamela is still a kid.

I personally think he's been played in the wrong position in the Europa league games, I'd personally play him in the two rather than the three.

He is a box to box player and not a No.10, he's more like a technically blessed David Platt making late runs in the box and getting on the end of things.

With Nabil out it'll be nice to see him play that little bit deeper and with Ceballos given a run in the No. 10 position.

I'd rotate him with Mason and or Dembele.
