Sounds like we have no-one heading things up though

The manager has the final say in who comes in, so in that sense he is heading things up. We have plenty of scouts watching plenty of players all the time, nothing at all has changed, except how the data is being crunched.

Slightly off topic but in terms of scouting and tactics as a club when it comes to technology are we beginning to look at Artifical Intelligence and Machine Learning.

You might think it is a bit off the wall but so was fancy healthy diets back in the 90's when Wenger and others brought them in or physiologist but they are now for the main accepted despite initially being laughed at and helped teams like Arsenal get ahead.

If we could gain an advantage with powerful technology we might gain a little edge when it comes to areas like scouting, be ahead of the curve as it were.

We were after a pacey wide player, Poch said as much which is why we brought in Sissoko, Isco was always going to be a pipe dream. If there were players available pretty sure we would have made a move for them also after the Bale money debacle it was mentioned that we were looking for more players who have played in England as they have that home grown experience as opposed to players abroad.
Modric is injured and may be out for a while. I suspect Isco will be staying at RM this season.

Such a weird link it's probably true!

Interesting story from Germany

Spurs want Michael Reschke Bayern Munich's technical director [recruitment genius]

BILD say: No chance.
Don't think it's weird at all. Bayern's recruitment has been top notch in recent years. And offering London, the PL and a new challenge is a carrot worth dangling even if he's at a top club.

Great ambition if true.

Just taken this off of COYS

Some info on him from a Bayern message board.....

The 57-year old Michael Reschke has been working at Bayer Leverkusen for astounding 35 years and was the right-hand man of Rudi Völler for pretty much a decade. Many experts and close observers of the Bundesliga believe that he's the architect of this successful Leverkusen era after the big-spending sprees of Reiner Calmund came to a disastrous end in 2004.

Reschke is a known expert for South-America, South-Europa and youth scouting in general. His proven track record of successful and cheap signings is almost endless. He also developed several loan and buy-back models from which Leverkusen benefited greatly in the past, a field of expertise we definitely need improvement in (Hummels, Can).

Furthermore he's also known as a ruthless and cunning contract and transfer negotiator which was essential to keeping Leverkusen competitive during a time where the mother company Bayer cut down the financial support of the football club significantly. Matthias Sammer doesn't seem to have much fun bartering over salaries, at least that's my impression, so Reschke should be the ideal guy alongside Dreesen to take over those responsibilities. It is expected that Reschke and Sammer will work together very closely and to be quite frank, Reschke has the much better track record and more experience than summer at club level, so Matthes should be able to benefit from this signing a great deal.

What we got here is a guy with the necessary track record, expertise and character to become Director of Football anywhere in the Bundesliga. The only thing he lacks is a public profile which is why his partnership with Matthias Sammer should be perfect. Reschke doesn't have to stick his face into the cameras with such a strong and public face at his side. Meanwhile Reschke can do a lot of the leg-work for Sammer.

I think this is a brilliant signing in the wake of Uli Hoeneß departure from the club. We might even be better off now, because Hoeneß was many things, but not a very good scout.

The Sun are claiming Steve Hitchen is to make a return to Spurs to head up our recruitment.

Interesting that Hitchen is seen as a French football expert. That's definitely the most ripe market with talent for a club with our budget.

Southern Europe and Benelux too hopefully based on Modric and Suarez, though not unknown quantities I suppose.

We haven't had too much success in recent times scouting French league players.. Stambouli, N'Jie, and Capoue were no world beaters. KGN is still an unknown quantity, Lloris was already French number one and captain so limited risk..

Lyall Thomas from Sky Sports is saying Hitchen is coming in as chief scout not head of recruitment as The Sun claim.

That would make him Rob Mackenzie's replacement and not Paul Mitchell's.

So it seems Hitchen used to be head of Europian recruitment for QPR before he moved to Derby were he worked along side ex Spurs man Rob Mackenzie. Apart from the two names being printed everywhere, Modric and Suarez, anyone know anyone else this guy is responsible for scouting?

Seems to be a slightly left field choice. I have become very dubious of our scouting set up over the last few years, can't say this guy eleviates my concerns, but I don't know enough about him to make a fair judgment. Anyone with any deeper insight?

But shouldn't the head of recruitment, if we were to get one, have some say on who becomes cheif scout? I wouldn't be surprised if we don't get a head of recruitment this time round as it hasn't worked out that well in the past.

We might have already identified our head of recruitment who's okaed Hitchen. The new head could be working out his current contract to leave in the summer like Mitchell.

We haven't that is true - but if you look at the quality of players their academies produce with regularity, the relative financial paucity of most teams and the fact that the physical
style of the French league is fairly similar to the PL it's no surprise so many players do well here.

I think I can help here. I am reliably informed that he has outstanding connections in Europe and Americas. Told he has a very good eye for a player.
