It occurred to me when watching MOTD and MOTD2 that a lot of teams this week were playing with their "number 2" keeper (based on their postion at the start of the season). Just from a quick count I saw these keepers play this weekend;

Wigan - Blazquez
Newcastle - Elliott
Everton - Mucha
Villa - Guzan
Liverpool - Jones
Norwich - Camp (only due to sending off)
Arsenal - Fabianksi
Reading - Taylor

There seems to be a major shift recently in the purpose of a "number 2" from back up to rotation or squad challenger. It made me think is Brad Friedel the best "number 2" we have had recently? Are there any keepers that you think we should have played more often?

Camp is Norwich's fourth choice GK behind Ruddy, Rudd and Bunn or aka Camp Ruddy Rudd Bunn

most of the those keepers are playing because the first choice is injured

Which in itself Is crazy as keepers never get injured!

Gbspurs, for a second there I thought you were talking shite with the thread title. :p

In all serious I think Brad is as good as a second keeper gets in this league, he has his faults but he's still a good guy to have around.

Yep. The only issues caused when Brad has been picked is the coach, soz Big Andre, not adjusting the defensive line accordingly.

Be interesting to see what sort of keeper we go for when brad goes. Will we go for homegrown youth, experience oldie or European nobody!! We have had all of these in recent seasons and normally none of them turn out well!

Whoever it is, it'll be a sweeper keeper. Unless DL and Sherwood keep on keeping on. We might not bother with a backup keeper.

I thought this was going to be a thread that would attract the likes of coprophiliacs such as Bomber, A & C and co...
