but somewhere to ruminate until it comes along. Here we go...
Team News
Us: I'm beginning to doubt physioroom as they still have Routledge crocked for us but he played in the reserves last week. Amazingly they have Ledley King down as being fit for October 22. The official site says Teemu Tainio (thighcrook), Kevin-Phipps Bong and RickRock (anklecrook) and Benni and Ledders (kneeknack) are all out. Worse still, Gardner may be fit. The late news is that ENO has a calf strain and won't make the trip.
Them: Toon are afflicted with Amoeba and Baby-yoyo groinboing, Ramage damage, Carr (ha ha!) hamstringping and Duffankle. Reports suggest that two of the PL's top psychos Barton and Smith will also miss the game - shame.
Form
We're letting in an average two goals a game at the moment. Even Fat Sam has spotted this. And with only Robbie Keane up front getting on the scoresheet regularly for us we are failing to repeat last season's trick of outscoring the opposition. But we're unbeaten in our last six games, although PL-wise that includes three draws. In our last 5 games we've racked up 1-1, 2-2, 3-3 and 4-4 draws.
Toon are unbeaten at home and we haven't won away. They have won three and drawn one of their four home games this season, scoring three in both the last two games at St James' Park.
Runes
Toon have scored more goals against us (46) than any other Premier League club so the omens do not look good. Owen and Martins vs Dawson and Kaboul doesn't fill me with hope either.
Past league games at SJP have ended with 25 Newcastle wins, Spurs winning 21 and 17 draws. That doesn't look too bad, but in the Prem Toon have bested us 8 times, with three to us and three draws. Where's Timmy Atouba when we need him?
Adjudication
It's Bennett innit? Steve of that ilk will be in the middle on Monday night. He's already dealt more cards this season than a Las Vegas croupier. In 11 games he's flashed 39 yellow and 6 reds. He reffed us at The Lane four times last season. We won three (West Ham, Port Vale and Man City) - and the one we lost? Newcastle! Aaaargh!
Predictions
Lawro: There is a lot of talk about striker Michael Owen's future but he's not going anywhere and the longer he plays at Newcastle the more his value appears to drop. I am not convinced about Tottenham at all. I have stopped trying to work out what their board is playing at but it appears that Martin Jol is only in charge until they can get someone else. I think they will earn a draw at St James' Park but maybe a bad result would put him out of his anguish. Prediction: 1-1.
Here's a Toon view of it all.
Me: Bad news. I'm tipping us not to lose. After coming away from the Reebok and Anfield with draws that could have been wins, I think we can make it three in a row of getting something at a ground where we lost last season. The big question is can we extend our six-game unbeaten streak or did the international break come at the wrong time for us?
Stats and Facts
I'm beginning to lose count but I think this is MARTIN JOL'S ninth consecutive FINAL GAME IN CHARGE.
We'll now have to wait for PAUL ROBINSON'S 150th appearance in a Spurs shirt. Any chance he'll celebrate it with a clean sheet?
We have bought an awful lot of Newcastle players. Or should that be a lot of awful Newcastle players? Like KEVIN SCOTT, LES FERDINAND, RUEL FOX and JERMAINE JENAS. But to offset that we did get GAZZA, THE WADDLER and the Mighty DAVEEEEED. And they gave us good money for Steven Carr, who said he wanted to play for a 'big club'. How's that working our for ya, Stevie?
After he coached them to their last trophy (1969 Fairs Cup), Newcastle sacked KEITH BURKINSHAW in May 1975. He then joined Spurs.
On 7 November 1981 West Brom beat Burkinshaw's Spurs with a goal by MARTIN JOL.
In 1984, MARTIN JOL was bought by Coventry to replace SAM ALLARDYCE.
Both TOTTENHAM and NEWCASTLE have been managed by OSSIE ARDILES. Some would say with equal success.
MIKE ASHLEY bought Newcastle but he owns LILYWHITES.
Come On You Spurs!
