Tottenham midfielder Dele Alli has struggled to recapture the form he displayed under Mauricio Pochettino and is now being linked with a switch to Newcastle.

This is how you know these articles are completely bullshit. You get taken over by a money pit and you’re linked with Dele Ali? Yeah he’s a good player on his day but it seems those days are over.

Because filthy rich clubs never make 'stupid' signings? Dele is still massively overrated by many people who don't watch Spurs week in week out.

Well they’re now being linked with Lampard as manager, so maybe the target right now is to avoid relegation with reasonably priced signings instead of big expensive one that might be unsustainable in the Championship.

Lampard as manager makes as much sense as signing Dele if your sole aim this season is to avoid relegation in order to build from there.

None at all.

Oh I agree, which is why it would be brilliant if it happened

"Newcastle could sign (insert name here)" will be headlines for months.

Might not be as easy as waving a cheque book about whilst they are down the bottom. Unless they want a team of mercenaries, which in the event of relegation will screw them big time for getting back up again. My understanding of financial regulation in the lower divisions is limited, but seems it would make it much harder?

Not as plain sailing for them as they might think.

I think the take over and uncertainty will affect them and will give every other team insensitive to beat them in order to get them relegated else risk making the league even tougher to finish top 4 in about 3 years! A spell in the championship would be just rewards for this ruining of English football with has become a billionaire play thing

They're all mercenaries mate, except some are better at football than others.

Bruce is better equipped to keep them up than Fat Frank.
Keeping them up has to be the only thing that they are concerned with this season and start to get things ready for their assault next year! (I feel sick writing that last bit!)

Man City and Chelsea made some very questionable signings soon after their takeovers, so perhaps we should expect Newcastle to do the same.

Man City paid £17.5m (huge money in 2009) for a 28 year old Santa Cruz who had only had one prolific season in over a decade of senior football...to replace outgoing Jo who they'd signed for £18m the summer before.

Chelsea signed 17 players during the first season under Abramovich. I think it's safe to say most were mistakes, considering only a minority of them regularly featured under Mourinho (who came in a year later).
