This wouldn't be the same 'fine' HSBC that facilitated the laundering of $881m of Mexican and Columbian drug cartels by any chance, and who were subsequently fined £1.4Bn?

Or the same HSBC who were also fined for contravening international sanctions by secretly dealing with Iran, Libya, Sudan, Burma and Cuba?

And was it not HSBC who admitted to helping wealthy clients evade tax through its private Swiss banking arm and were subject to allegations of rigging foreign exchange and precious metals markets?

Or the same bank that's expecting a $1bn fine for its role in mis-selling toxic mortgage products in the US ahead of the 2007/08 financial crisis and is currently being investigated by UK regulators for its alleged links to money laundering by the billionaire Gupta family, and whose links to president Jacob Zuma are at the heart of a political storm in South Africa?

I don't wish to be a party pooper - just pointing out that HSBC are anything but 'fine'.

So a bank, then.

Unfortunately the strong winds today and possibly tomorrow will put the cranes out of action.

I think they are targeting mid-Feb now for the start of the roof lift. So they've almost got a month to do it.

All that is really just a microcosm of capitalism and human nature. Swap out HSBC for any major corporation or government. Whoever we take £££'s from will have skeletons in their moral cupboard.

I could be wrong, but as far as I remember there was no firm deadline for the roof installation communicated to the public. Just an interview by Levy suggesting that the roof starting to go up at end of Jan/start of Feb would be a good indicator of the stadium being on time.

Considering Levy only last week said that he's very confident of the stadium being on time, I don't think a delay of a couple of weeks is material, nor a few days lost to high winds.

I don't claim to know a great deal about construction or development, but from a common sense point of view I can't see the stadium not being ready unless :

a) we get a really long period of really awful stormy/snowy weather which effects the critical path or curtails supplies
b) problems which manifest themselves during the roof installation
c) ditto the retractable pitch
d) ditto the South stand atrium

Or obviously a combination of the above.

Of course I could be talking a load of complete bollocks, so anyone with any real knowledge of the subject feel free to point it out. :D.

Would be surprised and disappointed if it's HSBC.

They haven't exactly got the best reputation and have been caught up in a lot of suspect dealings in the past 5-10 years.

Edit*

I'm not gunna sit here and list companies that I think would be better, but for anyone that isn't clued up, someone's posted a few things below on these 'scandals.'
Calling a bank crooked is like saying birds fly...but these mthfkrs are off the scale.

There are no guarantees. Although I think that delay in 1988 was a symptom of how bad things were off the pitch. We can criticse things about Levy and ENIC, but how we are run off the pitch isn’t really one of them.

The new stadium may well be delayed for reasons I’ve mentioned. I just don’t think a couple of weeks delay or a bit of wind is going to make any difference.

Yes but that is also the liberal paradox. You want the money, but you have to draw blood somewhere. Or, we have a system of laws which is supposed to mean something

HSBC has an extremely large market in the east asia region (especially China and Hong Kong). It seems to be very reasonable move
