I've asked this question elsewhere, but not had any replies...Do we have any idea of the proposed lifespan of the stadium?

@davidmatzdorf may be able to answer as I am now curious as well.

I've no idea. I'm not even sure what the question means. It's not the sort of thing you plan for. So much depends on macro-economic factors that are impossible to forecast 50-100 years in advance.

Who would have thought, in 1988, that every stadium in the top division would have to eliminate terraces?

It's not primarily about the building wearing out. That's subject to maintenance. It's about obsolescence due to changing regulations, expectations and culture.

A capital expenditure worth half to seventy five percent of the value of a LLC is expected to last indefinitely as it is something a company can not easily finance or replicate. Commonly available estimates of THFC's value are between one and one and a half billion dollars. The stadium is supposedly a half to three quarters of a billion dollar investment. This stadium will be the home of THFC for as long as anyone posting on this board will be alive assuming no drastic expansion of lifespan or change in the way sports are viewed.

Its really based on materials used I think. Lifespan of concrete is generally 50-70 years I believe if maintained regulalry. Steel obviously longer. Plus the foundations can play a part. Concrete buildings can go a lot longer if built on good foundations.

The problem with concrete is it actually dries out over long periods. You often notice on concrete the corners and pit holes are dusty and crumbled in appearance, and this is due to weakness after the block dries. The water is what keeps the shape and gives the enormous strength. This dryness can also lead to fractures inside unseen.

This is also a good reason to knock down 60s high flats, or replace motorway flyover support props. If you look on the underside of the m4 or westway they have huge nets to capture falling concrete.
