... The brown and black 3rd kits sold out very quickly. They had to keep making more to meet some of the demand.

They’ll be waiting an age to shift this season’s shite shirt; they’re practically giving them away on the web (20 quid gets you a brand new one, with tags). Saddest part is that this year ALL THREE are bloody awful. Usually at least one version is cool; not this time, however. Literally the 3 ugliest kits we’ve ever had by far.

Makes the Mansion days seem almost palatable by comparison.

They drop down to about £20 every year about now.

Not this fast; they’ve been “20 quid” for months now.

This season’s “effort” by Nike- from directly copying (and subsequently pasting onto our away shirt) the pattern from Barcelona’s training tops to the hideous, absurd “bottom blue drift”-shite on our home kit (which clashes so badly with white shorts that it is literally comical)- represents a new low. How anyone on earth ok’d these three monstrosities is beyond me.

Sadly, I actually wish we could just wear our garish green 3rd shirt on Championship Saturday, as at least- as much of an eyesore as it is- it’s definitely lucky, and I’ll always have a soft spot for it.

I genuinely believed that Levy was going to be jumping on the historic trend of having special European competition shirts. I anticipated a version which was identical but with no fade, or with a very subtle fade to a very mild off-white with off-white (like 5% grey/silver) shorts. I genuinely couldn't believe they would go with a version which would fade to blue with white shorts. (especially when you consider the socks all have a fade too, so it's clearly supposed to be integrated throughout the design)

I dunno, it was a travesty of a decision which could so easily have been avoided with a solution which actually would have appealed to the commercial side of Levy's brain.

The point(s) being made is that not only is it ugly- hell, join the club; Spurs have had plenty of naff kits before- but that it fucking CLASHES HORRIBLY WITH WHITE SHORTS, to the point where it goes beyond ugly and into ridiculousness-- and this is something EVERY SINGLE ONE OF US SAID WHEN THE KIT FIRST WAS UNVEILED!!! Look, I hated the fucking thing but whatever- it's a kit- but with white shorts it's a freaking EYESORE!!!! And it didn't have to be this way! As Phischy above so correctly pointed out: hell, make a "Champions League" home kit that DOESN'T clash horribly with white shorts: JOB DONE!

Us on the other hand so often have these ridiculous designs, as if the kit makers say "Lads, it's tottenham-- do what the fuck you want-- their management won't say a bleedin' word so just mock up anything you want-- they'll ok it, don't worry." But this season takes the cake: it's literally as if a gooner designed a kit that would pass muster at home (because the blue fade pattern on the shirt- as ugly as it is- at least doesn't violently clash with shorts), whilst knowing full well that when we played Champions League matches we would just look stupid.

Yes I'm focused on the match-- but as this is the kit thread I feel I am allowed to vent and, in so doing, actually say what all of us think: namely that for the first time ever our "All White in Europe" tradition works against us and makes us look like some League 1 team that accepted whaever the kit maker offered, just being happy to get some money for our coffers.

This is a once in a lifetime event; couldn't we at least just look halfway decent? So senseless, so fucking stupid/shortsighted of us. Appearances- like it or not- do make a difference- they just do. Sorry to rant but Tottenham just dumbfound me sometimes, getting the simplist, easiest-to-rectify shit so horribly wrong, this kit thing being a prime example.

There's a lot to unpick here, but I'll focus on mainly that, things evolve over time and as such, the only real constant that is 'spurs' is that our home shirt is predominantly white. Simple as that.

I bet in years gone by, when hummel designed their kit with the chevrons etc along the chest, there was outrage at them 'messing' with our tradition etc.

Now it's widely seen as one of our most iconic kits. If we have a white shirt that doesn't have a bit of design on it, we'll turn into a team knocking out the same kit year in year out, at 80/90 quid a throw and it either won't sell, or people will get angry that it hasn't changed.

I'm not against the design teams having a go, sometimes they'll get it spot on (Puma CL kit and the retro looking UA one) and others will be shit (Puma 'cycling shirt).

The rest have been hovering somewhere between, which is to be expected. Very few teams have a worldy of a kit each season.

We have to acknowledge that white isn't really a colour that lends itself to subtle designs. Therefore having a 'plain' kit with slight tone changes etc won't work.

Also, I hope this isn't a once in a lifetime occasion... Let's hope this is the start of a few times at this stage eh?

This was the reason that Bill Shankly introduced it in the early '60s. Until then Liverpool had worn white shorts with their red shirts. Shankly wanted something different that would be distinctive, help give the club a separate identity, and hopefully intimidate the opposition.

As for the rest of your post: while it's a little OTT, I agree. Appearance is important and this year's home shirt with white shorts looks fucking ridiculous - although it's still better than the hideous green. (Sir) Bill made all-white our kit for Europe, not white with a fat blue band around the waist. It wouldn't have killed anybody to introduce an all-white shirt for our CL matches this season. Who knows, it's possibly not too late.

Yep. Best kit we've had in a very long time for me. It was so clean and classy, yet understated. Other than the red AIA, which you just have to get used to, it was exactly what a Tottenham kit should be imo.
