I reckon they're using a cardboard cut out of MoPo in all the signing photos

Contracts aren't really worth the paper they're written on, but it does mean that he can't walk away on a free. Plus a player on a long contract is worth more in any potential sale. Still, there's there's a good sense of commitment coming back from our players at least!

Great news. His absence has shown how dependent we are on Rose and Walker in making us a pacy team that can rapidly turn defence into attack - Davies has been adequate but lacks quality in a position Rose has made his own.

I actually think it does mean much more than that now. The fact that so many of our players are signing these contracts tells you that they want to be part of something here and they believe in what we are doing. I can't imagine any team in the Prem unsettling our players at the moment, I believe that they all respect their contracts. I honestly think we only need to worry about Barca and Madrid and one of those has a transfer embargo anyway.

This is how I wanted us to spend the TV windfall money. It's very shrewd business compared to some who have splashed out on players they can't really afford. Typical Levy.

Not exactly. I basically meant that contracts are worthless in the sense of when a player wants to leave he just forces the move or stops playing, or the buying club puts in a massive bid that you can't refuse etc. The only thing a long contract can prevent is a player walking on a free.

The key fact here, is a willingness by the club to reward efforts of the players. If they put the work in and do the business out on the park, they get contracts to reflective of where they are at, and the club are being seen to actively renew, even if there has been a recent contract upgrade.
Should prompt the players to deliver and also show any potential signings we're a proactive club. They know if they join and perform well, that will be recognised.

This is true but there's another point to consider. In the last few weeks players who could have moved to almost any club in Europe have chosen to sign deals with us. That says something about what is going on behind the scenes.
