Thanks for the quote and the advice, wasn't sure who you were talking to there for a second.

9 of the squad may still be here, but he has overhauled the other 16 positions in it!

All these were signed on Poch's watch.

Wanyama - was a monster signing in his first season .. his injuries have nothing to do with a judge of player.
Son - One of the best strikers in Europe now and worth more than double what we paid.
Dele - Cost £5M - Worth £100M
Sanchez - Great signing
Alderweireld - Only cost £11M and has been the best CB in the premier league in his 4 years with us.
Foyth - Will be an awesome CB with Sanchez for many years.
Davies - Bargain
Trippier - Bargain
Dier - Super bargain
Moura - Amazing value
Gazzaniga - Looks a great prospect and will replace Lloris in a couple of years for nothing.
I'm not sure I'd describe Davies as a bargain. He's a competent but slow left back who offers nothing going forward.

He is very reliable and a solid LB in a 4-4-2. In a 3-5-2 he's better as a LCB than a CB. He's a full international and very much a bargain.

Shit is the most common term around SC.

52 key passes, 6 assists and 2 goals last season in 38 appearances. Has been a bit quieter going forward this season, but IMO seems to take less risks with the ball/possession (might be tactical) when he plays. Always puts a shift in, versatile, reliable. It's weird how Poch keeps picking him.

We valued him at around £10m, he's easily worth double that now IMO. Also only 25 and Homegrown (only in the League ffs), which could probably tack on a few more million quid.

I didn't call him shit. I just don't think he was a bargain...

It's fuck all to do with being tight. There have been plenty of times in the past where Levy could be solely blamed for us missing out on targets, but now we are not signing players because he is backing the manager. Levy copping all the blame because either we can't afford to spend £80mil on individual players or because they would rather go elsewhere is why we haven't brought anyone in. I have said it before Poch has become very AVB like with his wishlist and doesn't want to consider others. That of course is his perogative, it's his job on the line at the end of the day and he's earned the right imo to say who he does/doesn't want.

To say though it's all because we are being too tight is plain wrong though, on this occasion at least.

why don’t they want to come here, because we won’t pay the wages?

We’ve been regular top 4 now and challenging , in the CL etc etc. Players should want to play for us, an up and coming team and manager. It has to be money, money, money!

This is interesting. I know I'm not supposed to ask you questions but some general musings here.

If we have an interest in a player Poch would have met them and/or spoken to them on the phone. If they were point blank unwilling to come then Poch would know that and knowing him - I would expect he would no longer deem them targets (obviously he would only want players that want to come and fight for the cause).

The explanation therefore must surely be that it is financial. My suspicion is that we are not tabling lucrative enough offers to attract the players we want. The fact of the matter is that if we want to compete with Liverpool and City we will need to get closer to them in wages.

If we cannot do that we must accept being also rans. Or hope we luck out on a few rough diamonds...which will be 5 years in the making...at which point our current crop will be gone.

Meanwhile - there are only so many squad places available at those teams. Surely we can get one player to replace the departed Dembele in this window?!?

It's not about wages(well sometimes it is but not as much as you'd think) it's about them wanting to go to other clubs who have expressed interest but not firmed up an offer. This is the case with De Jong(but not just him) then you have another player who we'd have to over double our record transfer fee to get. Both De Jong and the other player are as things stand unobtainable for different reasons but that doesn't mean things won't change and until they actually move clubs there is still a chance (although extremely thin imo).

Unfortunately when you are talking about players in the top tier, or at least being courted by Europe's elite then we unfortunately are still a pretty small fish regular top four or not.

I think what concerns me is that we hear that Poch wants top tier midfielders as supposedly only a certain standard will benefit us but then you see Chelsea linked with Barella and Paredes. I mean I understand wanting the likes of De Jong and maybe we are trying to stay in that fight until the bitter end but to see Chelsea linked with quality midfielders. I don't really know what I'm trying to say but I guess it's that there's more quality midfielders in the world than De Jong and N'dombele and we are in danger of being left behind I feel. Reminds me of my mate he's 30 years old and still a virgin, is the ugliest bastard you'll see in your life yet seems to be waiting for Margot to arrive in his bedroom.

If we are in for top tier/wonderkid players who are also wanted by bigger fish AND Poch won't accept any else , to complete we would need to get extremly lucky or be ready to spend even more money.

I don't think that it is the case that poch is stubborn. Come one if he is playing kids in first team why won't he accept decent player. He might be stubborn not to sign next njie, nkoudu e.t.c. This might be the baldy making excuse in advance that its the manager.
When city and chelsea had shit pedigree buth they signed top class players. Its all about money baby. Levy is unfortunately looking to sign someone in the range of max 30 mil. Which is not enough to improve the team.

Chelsea are also being linked to sacking their manager very shortly,

I know that the weekend has caused a lot of unrest their end but still pretty shocking to hear, all media reports seem to indicate they're backing him with Higuain and it sounded like they were confident of a midfield face coming in having let Fabregas go.
