Southampton's Mauricio Pochettino has emerged as the firm favourite to succeed Tim Sherwood as Tottenham manager. I assess the Argentine's pros and cons:

No please no. Pochettino is a good manager but still very new to the role and spurs need someone who will gain the trust of the players very quickly. De Boer to me is the only candidate who should be considered because half his job is already done because two of our players have played for him and they can convince the rest of the squad what a great manager he is.

I agree that there would be a doubt about how he would deal with the pressure of poor results.
Worth pointing out though that he arrived at Southampton against an unbelievably hostile reception. Pundits were queuing up to say that by picking him to replace Adkins they had guaranteed relegation. Showed a lot of bottle to prove them wrong and win over the supporters.

Umm Pochettino has been managing longer than De Boer!

Pochetinno's agent is working very hard to keep his man's name in the frame. I'm not against his signing, but there is no 'favourite' for the job yet, as I doubt we've even started the process.

shouldn't it be the manager who convinces his new side how good he is rather than the players who worked well (albeit in a crap league) under him previously?

I am desperately hoping that Levy has identified the man he wants and will now get him as quick as possible. I would hate to think this will drag on and he will have no time to get his players in and have a good preseason with them. I dont want us still pissing about bidding for players when were in to the season. We have done this so many times and it just does not help!

I would say that process began a long time ago. Haven't we already placed calls to Ajax?

I say straight away am not up to speed with some of our top candidates ,but for what its worth , Is pochettino a step up on AVB , Rafa well hes got premier league experience obversely won trophies both at home and in Europe , but will his style of football grate with our fans or if we are winning will they care .Then FDB not managed here but won dutch league for last four years and as mentioned earlier on has managed two of our players already , brings in youth so that could be a advantage when the Europa league comes around . This is now one of levys biggest call , by now in his chairmanship he must know what the club needs .The foundations are there for a team to challenge a top four position , some players need to be moved on and certain positions need strengthing , if we can get someone to address this properly our future could be looking up .

I like the idea of De Boer but the Premier League is a different animal and I think Prem experience is a must. Pocchettino has managed two small clubs, was fired by the first but has had two good years with the second and has done a good job of bringing on players from one of the best academies in England. Rafa has had success in 3 leagues, won the Big Cup and just took Napoli into the CL at his first attempt - but his teams don't really play the Spurs way. I think if we want to be a big club, we have to hire managers who are the finished article and who have big game experience. I think of the three, Rafa is the right choice here.

De Boer is more unproven as he has only ever coached at Ajax, and in his role as Chief Coach he was always in a good position to lead them to glory domestically (notwithstanding that Ajax hadn't won the title for a while before he took over).
Poch has had 2 roles in 2 different leagues, including vital past experience in the Premier League. Both of his roles were in challenging situations where the club was weaker than alot of its rivals and so bad periods can be expected and must be dealt with. For me these are the advantages he offers. Like De Boer, Pochettino has demonstrated the ability to develop players. As well as youth development, De Boer's strength is likely to be his profile and contacts.

The style of play Pochettino likes fits best with the Spurs ethos. If he could get that from the Southampton squad, why would he not be able to do it with the resources we have? In terms of style, Benitez is right at the other end of the spectrum and he made some monumental cock ups in the transfer market.

What a thoroughly depressing choice of managers listed on this thread. Can't see any of them getting us top 4. Oh well, at least they're not English.

Ernesto Valverde would be my choice if I was playing football manager , took Athletic Bilbao to champions league next season with a team of just basque players playing great attacking football and elevating half of his side either in the Spanish side or on the fringes .
