OOOOOOOOOO!

Mark Hughes? IS that the limit of our ambition?

It might not be ambitious but its realistic, where Capello and Mourinho arent. If Hughes is seen in some quarters as the successor to Ferguson then he's definately good enough for us.

Great player Hughes and scored some terrific goals, also could look after himself and most importantly, he was a winner with the right mentality, has now brought that into management.

Has done a fantastic job with Blackburn, completely sorted them out, first got them solid and difficult to beat, and I respect the fact that they can put it about, especially against the goons and softies like us. But he's now got them playing some decent stuff as well and this with one of the smaller budgets in the prem.

If Jol goes, I'd be very pleased to have him, but why would he come to the running joke that is THFC ?

Those who seem to think he's beneath us, because in their la la land world Mourinho or someone of that ilk is coming, are a part of the reason why we're being so heavily laughed at, get real people.

Hughes's record in England is better than Jol's was in the far inferior Dutch league. We don't need reminding about the trophy he's won, he's taken Blackburn into Europe via the league on a fraction of our budget and his teams are fit, hard to beat and not exactly dull either. i would take at least 5 of his team (Santa Cruz, McCarthy, MGP, bently, Emerton, Friedel,) definately and possibly a couple of others. His team plays with balance, aggresion and at times flair.

I can't say that he would be my first choice, but we need to improve certain aspects of our game and he would certainly strengthen those aspects whilst not damaging the others. tactically I am undecided as to how good he really is but motivationally he is right up there, his teams rarely give less than 110%. And Blackburn are not a long ball side either.

What ever the rights and wrongs of the Jol scenario, his position is untenable. Every game is potentially his last. It must affect his decision making process (maybe not as he keeps making the same mistakes). And it must be affecting the morale of the team. The first couple of games you get a bit of a rally but soon players who feel they are not getting a fair shake or who's personalty clashes will also start to influence the dressing room for the worse. Jol knows that he is gone barring a miracle. We would have to qualify for europe at least and win a trophy for him to have a squeek at being our manager next year.

I think Hughes is possibly the best manager outside the top 4 in the premiership.

So Hughes will have to win at least a trophy within two seasons of taking the job otherwise he won't be any better than Jol and would also have to be shown the exit door.

Maybe, maybe not. But I think that will certainly be the requirment for Jol. Don't you ??

Hughes would be unlikely to come, at least not mid-season into the current mess. We're NOT going to get Mourinho, Lippi etc...and almost certainly not Capello either. You don't need to be a seer to see that, so going on like broken records about them is pretty much pointless. If those ITK about Klinsmann's demands are true, I can't see him happening either with ENIC's "masterplan" at bailing from us with maximum profit.

I brought up Sparky yesterday. Must remember to pick up that lottery ticket tonight.

He's a good boss, and in the absence of an Eriksson, O'Neill or even Allardyce on the market, he perhaps looks even better. Not exactly Mourinho, but would have us organised, playing decent (if not spectacular) footy and wouldn't stand for shit. We also know (well, can assume) he is happy with the club and working with a DoF as he was in place to come in with the Trap prior to Santini/Arneson et al came in.

I wonder if he would see us as a stepping stone to Old Trafford. even if he did, thats fair enough, and I think he would be realistic to know that he would only get the gig at OT if he did very well for us over a period of a few years. I doubt his commitment would be questioned.

I'm not completely thrilled at the prospect of Sparky , but I'd love to see Chimboda's face when he gets a long deserved taste of cold steel the first time he fucks about in a Hughes team..

Imagine Malbranque actually playing in the right position ALL THE TIME , that'd be something eh..

I'm looking for upsides in the face of renewed Sparky rumours see .

If we get Hughes, all the muppets that think he isnt big enough for us will soon be chanting his name. Hughes is everything we need at the moment. Character, no fear to bollock the team, passionate, improving etc etc.

We need someone that after a performance like that on Monday would let rip at the players and work on improving their mistakes.

I love Jol, but he's clearly lost the dressing room in my opinion.

We should get rid of the individuals like Berbs, Chimbo, Lennon and start again. We want our Tottenham back.

we could do that...

but if we do, we'll turn back into the Spurs retirement home AGAIN. getting players who will wind up the last few years of their playing careers at the lane. I don't really want to see that.

It's a very short term attitude to just get someone in to fix immediate problems though isn't it? Going from one extreme to the other? We need a long term manager who can build on Jol's good work.

I think Mark hughes is a good manager. He has done really well with a small team and little money. He's brought in MGP, Bentley, Santa Cruz, McCarthy, Samba and they have proved to be good signings.

Yes his team's play physically but then he hasnt had the money nor the club status to bring in dazzling playmakers. I think he could do really well at our club.

He did a great job for Wales and has done a great job for Blackburn but is he really good enough to improve us and (cliche) take us to the next level ?

This guy's side went out of the UEFA to Larissa of Greece (who the fookin hell are they) over TWO legs

If it's not to be Mourinho or Ramos then Hughes is a very good choice, like others have pointed out he's got a bit of steel about him, but he's not shy of using flair players either.

And for old Mullers there, going on about expectations, what you look for is progress, development, ability to manage in different circumstances, under different pressures with different expectations. Jol is a Premiership manager, a top-class manager takes it all in their stride, makes the right decisions despite the pressure. Jol's very good a talking hard, but during a match when it counts, he's shown himself up. Not only that, where's his back-room staff? Where's his method? and yes, he's had new players to deal with and young guys to bring through, but he's fluffed it and before anyone says anything, that's part of being a top manager too.

Any new manager will be expected to get us out of our current mess, that's his base, next season we'll want to see his stamp and though we'll struggle for top six this season that has to be his goal for next. That's the expectations on the new guy and they're totally different to what we expect from the incumbent.
