was also fouled 7 times.

he was mostly quiet(as you can see by his pass numbers) but was still good in spells, especially the first five minutes where he was causing them all sorts of problems. excelsior didn't have much of the ball in the final third and when that happens he struggles to have much of an impact on the game, i'd love to see him in a better team but this will be good experience for him, especially the work he has to do going the other way.
A year away, i hope will get his head sorted out and reignite his dedication. If he returns, and looks like he is ready to kick on, and more importantly, ready to apply himself 100%... Then the next best move for all involved would be a championship loan... Preferably to a london club. Perhaps Fulham would be a good spot for him should they get relegated.

He clearly has so much potential. Would be such a shame to see that talent unable to realize it's full potential, cos he wasn't mature or focused enough to do the hard yards needed to make it at the highest levels.

The game is live on Freesports Channel 422 - been a bit of nothing game Edwards is playing on the right and had struggled to get involved but just a minute ago he cut inside ,beating two men but drove the ball wide.
h
My reservations about Edwards have always been that he struggles to get involved in games and his movement and awareness of space needs to improve. Watching a bit of this nothing much has changed sadly

ps as I type he had a very good chance clean through but makes a dreadful decision givesthe ball away with a very poor pass

My problem is whenever (very seldom) i see him play he still looks like 'youth player dropped into the first team' in that he does his little cut in cameo but not a lot else, he doesn't seem to be maturing and still has the decision making of a 17 year old, which is fine against 17 year olds but not against seasoned professionals.

Love to be proved wrong but i just cant see it happening for him at our level unless something massive clicks*

*said only because i am always wrong so this should guarantee he will be a future Balon D'or winner.

i think he's had a good game, up to a point, unfortunately that point is the most important part but there are still positives to take. had a good shot early on which looked to be heading for the far corner but for el hamdaoui getting in the way and another mentioned above where he beat two players(first on the outside and 2nd on the inside, showing he can go both ways) before pulling his shot wide. has worked diligently off the ball and has been as involved as you can realistically expect an attacking player to be in a side who have had 38% possession. I think people just need to judge him as a work in progress and just look at the potential, he beats players and gets into great positions, he has messed a lot of them up but he's 20, if he's the same in a few years time then ok but right now he's still only a dozen games into his senior career.

Been fouled 5 times in that first half too.

His decision making would surely get better playing in a better team too.

Seems like he's making progress, given man of the match here

not as involved 2nd half, especially when he was moved to the left but he still had a decent game overall and played a part in their equaliser.

[taken from whoscored]
5 successful dribbles (1st)
5 free kicks won (1st)
5 tackles (1st)
7.9 overall rating (1st)

still needs to be more incisive in the final third, he works himself into great areas but tends to freeze. if/when he cracks that he will be a major player.

Sounds like his all-around game is developing nicely. Even outside of assists/goals it is equally important that he helps the team anyway he can ( earning freekicks, tackling etc) and that will further build confidence in him.

If he wasn't involved in the second half jeez!! I only saw the first half but i thought he was poor though the game was awful in fairness. He doesn't appear to me to have moved on - he has some decent attributes but there are to many ifs about him -which is sad as the buzz around him was so exciting. I agree with the guy above he looks like a kid size wise and more disappointingly in his general involvement and awareness which may be down to tactics. But once he had the ball and one on one on a defender I expected more, he didn't commit the defender and made a terrible pass - sorry if you are going to flitter in and out of games like Marcus when you have a chance you need to make an impact

If he was man of the match on what I saw that was a laughable decision

Here are 10 minutes of your life...

I know he's not a defensive player and Poch would work on this but a lot of nearly bits of defensive play there - always seems to be just out of position. I really don't think Poch would appreciate it. Although this may be instruction from his manager. Does need time to bulk up a bit and I think his confidence and commitment in the challenge should improve. Nice glimpses of ability though - glad to see him out playing regularly.

He was playing in a front 3, he can’t be expected to defend like a right midfielder

His decision making was awful. He's got a lovely touch but no idea of how to stretch a defence, play in tandem with a full back and his weight of pass was terrible.

He did track back though, which is progress, even if only for parts of the 1st half.

He's not a Winger but he could learn by playing the role. I'd hope to see more progress though.
