In hindsight, we should've offered Aurier as a part of a deal for Bisaka

Let's be realistic - I imagine that had considered that, but chose not to do so either because (a) we didn't want to (b) he didn't want to go to them or (c) they didn't want him.

It's not like, post deal, they'll suddenly say 'oh wait, we've got other RBs we could have offered!'

If KWP can bulk a bit, I feel we've a very good RB in the making.
This isn't the KWP thread, maybe we should ask for one to be moved in here but other than this throw away line we've not really had info on him leaving (even Herc says he will be given the preseason). All that said I think his biggest weakness is not strength but reading the game and space. Going to a very defensively minded Hodgson who would probably enjoy teaching him and an entire season playing that way would be smart IMO.

Surprised this hasn’t been mentioned already.

He’s signed for United for £50m. £45m up front, apparently.

I'm convinced RB is one of those positions where you don't need to spend this sort of money to get what you need. Our scouts should be working tirelessly to find the "next big thing" in full back positions as given we rotate at FB we can afford to carry a young talent.

Plus it's not like the bar has been set high like it was in CM/AM by Dembele/Eriksen

Unless United sort out their CB and CM issues he will be the new scape goat as he's the new big money signing. Same as what happened with shaw when he first went there.

Don't think it's the best of move for him, but it's bound to be impossible to turn down.

Good luck to him, I hope they don't ruin him.

Wrong club for him. Needs a stable environment to keep developing his game. He’s going to be thrown in the deep end at a shit show, with turd defenders around him. He’ll be expected to do a lot more attacking, rather than backs to the wall, last ditch defending like he was doing at Palace.

Great post- it’s a stupid move given how unstable they are. His agent and team really should have advised better

I don't know, maybe it's good for him to move up a slight level for a couple of seasons, before making the jump to a big club. :sneaky:

Can't blame him for moving to United, regardless of their current state. They are still one of the biggest sides in the world and it's still an upgrade in every sense to Palace, with the potential for him to be playing club football at the highest level.

Whether it actually works out for him is another matter. I could envision him being solid in their back line, but I can also envision him struggling a little with the pressure and expectation, but I can certainly understand why he'd want to go there from Palace.
