Playing for palace for one season is completely different to playing for Man Utd at old Trafford where you’re expected to put in 8/10 performances every game. And not playing under an experienced manager in hodgson rather than solskjaer.

I am not saying he won’t be a hit there, but boothroyd said he was effected by the transfer hanging over his head. It’s a massive move for him. If they get a decent centre back in next to him it will make the world of difference though.

Probably the best right back on the market this summer, but still, I think that's an obscene amount of money for what he's achieved in the game.

Hope it goes tits up for them and they have pay to loan him back to Palace within a year.

If that’s really the price it’s a huge mistake by us. Have that position locked down with the best RB in the league for the next 5-10 years. HG at that. I really don’t get it. It’s tripper plus 25M. Should have been an absolute no brainer.

We’re going to pay 60-70% of that price for a vastly inferior product.
What don't you get ? If we had an endless budget then, like you, i would have liked this player and i'm sure the manager would as well. But with a fixed budget, there are plenty more important places to be spending £50m first i.e Midfield. I've said it before and i'll say it again, anyone drawing up a list of ideal players for a first XI will start with a striker, keeper, central defender/s and midfielders.A spine. Then they add wingers. The last places you fill are the full backs. In an ideal world you have great £50m full backs but unless you are City, who can do that ? And given how Poch managed to turn 3 of our cheap full backs into regular internationals with price tags to match, do we really need to spend £50m on a full back to get a £50m full back (if you see what i mean) ? I'd argue that full back is the easiest position to improve a player in by good coaching.

Whilst I agree that it would have been good to sew up the RB position for the next 10 years, I disagree that we will pay '60-70% of that for a vastly inferior product'. I'd say there was about a 10-15% premium on his price purely because he's English.

Aarons is a fine right back, as is Atal, in my opinion both not vastly inferior to Wan-Bissaka, and either wouldn't cost as much.

Maybe he didn't want to join us? Maybe it's not obvious to our management that he will be the best full back in the league for the next 10 years? Maybe they felt that for the incremental amount required vs. alternatives, it didn't make sense? Maybe your own notion of a vastly inferior product is wrong?

I don't think it's so clear cut

It does annoy me how over-inflated the prices English players in the premiership are.

All it does long-term is damage the national side as stops some of them from stepping up to somewhere that may improve them.

See in Germany for example they don’t go silly transferring German players in between each other in their league.

It also means we get teams like Arsenal for example who are just filled with foreign players and contributing pretty much nothing to our national team.

Add to that an additional 10-15% premium for United being rich and desperate.

I'd add Matt Doherty to that list. Reminds me of Andy Robertson when he was at Hull.

Initially, I was slightly surprised to see him go there now. He's had one full season of first team football and been with Palace around 10 years. United are not the same force as before and it feels they have a placeholder manager so in a year or so they could be looking for someone new and go through this 'rebuilding' again.

...but then the family photo of him in a Man Utd shirt showed up and it makes sense. The club his family support show firm interest and of course he wants to go, regardless of their situation.

Would be nice if we were that well supported in future that kids are boyhood spurs fans and want to join us.

Man U still have that pull from their glory years.

If you're looking to improve your team and squad in the situation Spurs are currently in you simply cant buy top end for every single position. Ndombele, Lo Celso will be in the top 30 fees ever paid, and it wouldn't be financially prudent to also spend 50m on a rb when we still have three on the books. Perhaps if this deal happened later in the window we could have had a nibble after selling others but I think prioritising other positions over rb at this stage was the correct thing to do.

There is ITK that Poch wants a very good look at KWP during pre-season. There was no way Poch would sanction 50m on a right back who may not be much of an upgrade on what we have coming through.

We have bigger fish to fry.

Hmmm...odd...not like he hasn't seen him consistently in training the last 3 or 4 years to know whether or not he rates him.

There is still a real possibility of Aurier coming good, I reckon.

In terms of sheer athleticism he’s probably our top player, he’s fast, powerful and strong. Just needs to work on not being such a nutcase who makes awful decisions on the pitch.

Sort that element of his game out and I think there’s a real gem of a talent there.

I've always felt with a run of games that erratic aspect of his game is less frequent but when he's in and out of the team it appears more often.

It could simply be down to rhythm and timing as Serge's method of defending involves sliding tackles.

Maybe he felt he wasn’t ready aged 18-21 to dislodge both of the 2 internationals ahead of him.
Don’t forget AWB only got in the palace team due to long term injuries, it wasn’t planned but he’s gone from strength to strength.

If we could sell Tripps and put that money towards GLC or similar, I’d be ok with Serge and KWP being our RBs.
After Ndombele I’d still prioritise another midfielder over RB provided the CM was high caliber.

Unless we’ve got a chance at getting Atal, he’d be great.

50 Million is ridiculous money for potential, shows how crazy the market is. Yes he may be worth it, but it would be one hell of a gamble for us. Doubt Wolves would let Doherty go, but would prefer him , mainly due to his attacking prowess. Either way we must improve this position, i cannot continue looking at Trippier on last years form for another season
