For me it shows how many spurs fans have a negative view of almost every aspect of our play and it really annoys me they seem to want us to be Real Madrid or Barcelona . With the squad we have we are doing the best we can Top four in the league for the last four years and champions league finalist . We have in my view been punching above our weight and instead of bemoaning Saturdays performance we should be praising the guts and resilience shown on Saturday albeit with luck . I have seen games where we have been on top as much as city were and lost ( witness the Newcastle game a few years ago) we were pummelled by the media for not scoring and Newcastle praised for their resilience it seems like double standards to me .
Also I can say some of you should get real I have been going to WHL since 1951 and except for the Nicholson years this is the best time to be a spurs fan . I may be wrong but the older fans who have seen great years and average years and downright awful years would agree with me and I think that maybe the newer fans who have a higher view of how we should perform .
For me I will judge at the end of the season and not after two yes two games .
Add the birkenshaw years to the good times.
I'm wondering if the players are buying into the new system.

I was at yesterday’s game and VAR aside - despite conceding twice Hugo put in a great performance and deserved some real credit. We would have been dead and buried second half without him.

Did we play well? No.

Did we get dominated in large parts of the game by the best team in the Country and one of the best in Europe? Yes.

Did we lose? No and that's the difference from where we were just a few seasons ago.

The ability to grind out points is what separates the best from the rest and that is what we did yesterday. All teams go through bad patches during a season and for all the reasons discussed already in this thread I fully expect that to be us for the next few games. The season has only just started and I have full faith in Poch to get us where we need to be. Coming away from the Ethiad with a point is massive and regardless of how we played in the 90 minutes we should be extremely positive as to what we can achieve this season, even if our performances haven't been at the highest standard we now seemingly hold the team to every game we play.

Having read a lot of posts, commented on some myself, i'm starting to think that Eriksen, whilst being our playmaker, is the rot in the team at the moment because no player in the team knows what is going on with him. I know in my footballing days if a player looked like they had lost their way in the team and were likely to jump ship he was almost excluded even if on the pitch. That could very well be the mental situation in the Spurs camp at the moment. Pull Eriksen out until the window shuts. Show strength and solidarity amongst the , dare i say it but...…….remainers, let him sweat it out. He is truly an architect but his head has been turned. Possibly by GLC turning up, who i personally think will be better than CE , maybe not at this club but will without a doubt be a better player, again IMHO, we are no longer a team of players on the shoulders of giants. We are s a whole.....GIANTS, something we have wanted for years. 10 years ago we were mediocrity, mid-table consistently.
Just to allow the non- players insight in to what goes on, you, as a player, have instructions. You can be told that to improve your performance you cannot cross the half-way line or you can only have 2 touches on the ball. You have to make 20 passes before you can shoot. It's something that does happen. Will continue to happen and will ALWAYS happen.
As a former midfielder I would participate in such schedules during a game but then, as my idol was Gazza, I'd go rogue as i could dribble, take players on and beat them with proper silky skills. Managers hated that because it was insubordination as apposed to great skill by a player, who at that time his confidence wasn't knocked, could change a game very much like the season of our '91 cup final win with the player of the run being told you can't play that way. Ysteyear was different, managers let players go rogue, nowadays, it's about control, from top to bottom. As fans we won't be told this. We are supposed to see only the glory on the pitch. It runs much deeper than that. They may be players but they are also people. yes they set themselves up for ridicule and mockery by being in this industry but equally they are praised when audacious stuff pays off along with the financial rewar4ds they receive due to it being a very short career.. I'm guilty of that far too often to mock but my mockery is normally through inability on the ball instead of a wayward pass. Lack of control rather than losing out on a header. Have faith in our team people, have faith in our manager. Look where we were at the end of the season and what we'd achieved.

5 touches in their box over 90 mins, have we ever had less? Great point but awful performance, worrying as it doesn't seem like we are progressing. Something's not right behind the scenes.
What did I write? I’m delighted with the result so not saying we should have got more. Regardless of who was missing we did not play well, no need to have a word. I say as I see. Had we lost by 5 could anyone say it was harsh? Anyway onwards and upwards.[/QUOTE
Explain how we are not progressing or how you have came to the conclusion something is wrong behind the scenes. Yes we were outplayed so will every other team that goes there this season. We got a draw. They smashed West Ham 5-0 last week. In reality you need them to have an off day to have any chance of beating them.

I've been hearing a lot of stuff on social media about Spurs fans - Including women and kids at the game getting getting battered both inside and outside The Etihad after the end of the match.

The Tottenham Hotspur Supporters Trust are doing an enquiry.

Oh come on. Yesterday was not an ability to grind out a result. We were extremely lucky, that's the only reason we got a point.

You just know that had Villa held on for the draw last week they'd have said they deserved it and we failed because we couldn't get the win with all that superiority yet this week when City failed and we held on they are great and we are shit.

Really think we'll see the best out of Ndombele with Dier on the pitch. He's having to play too much defense with Winks and Sissoko out there.
This. I like Winks, but he's still young and ALOT to learn. We need him to be consistent and keep playing him is not going to help. He needs to be rotated with Sissoko and Dier.

And I really miss Dier ability to slot into the CB on attack and the added bite he can provide.

Defended well for large periods, or we would of got thumped though.

You need more than luck to get something there.

We certainly rode our luck but some good defending got us over the line despite us being poor on the ball.

I dont know why I'm arguing but this is wrong.
In 2017 Opta created a new “framework” called a possession. This method counts how many possessions a team has in an entire game and dividing it by the total per game.

Opta defines a possession as starting when a player takes a controlled touch, this does not include headers or tackles and ending when a player no longer has or tries to have control of the ball. This includes interceptions, shots crosses into areas and set pieces.

Either way 99% of the stats have it at around 55-45. We were under the kosh most of the game as we did nothing with our possession bar score 2 goals from 2 shots plus one speculative effort from harry at the half way line

Why are you arguing over a question....did you have a late night or lose your purse?
In any case, I found out how it was done.
Chill....?

I haven't argued over a question. I pointed out why there may be a difference in stats. You tried to tell me incorrectly how possession is measured. I pointed out your mistake. You resorted to insults.

Agree to disagree it's clearly a boring point (y)

We didn't defend well at all, they cut through us time and time again and just poor finishing and decisions by them is the reason we didn't lose by at least 3 goals. And our defending for their two goals were atrocious. just because we got a point, you don't have to turn blind to the actual performance. We got a point despite our defending - and that is down to luck.

If we had not defended well at all we would have lost by three goals a lot of their poor finishing was due to our defending and them not having quite the time to set themselves so they rushed it. Lloris pulled off some good saves but that wasn't luck that is what he's there for and our interceptions and blocks weren't lucky that is what our defenders are there for.

Poch said after the game that the window still being open is effecting us. Guess he means players don’t have their mind on it. If that’s the case, don’t select them then!
