Tottenham have been given encouragement over their pursuit of Steven Caulker while Gary Medel could also leave Cardiff due to relegation release clauses in the pair's contracts.

If the new Coach defends with a high line and needs pace we should forget Caulks.

All depending on the manager...

For those who miss him, so has the Cardiff defence all season. His defending on Saturday was horrendous, and that's written with all due respect to him. Terrible defending by him, slow out of pace and position.

do we need him? I know we need home grown players but a youngster should be brought through.

if Daws and Younes are basically gone at the top level, and Jan also wants out we are left with one CB fit for purpose so we need 3 CBs. Id be happy for him to be one of 'back-up' options.

Can't get my head around this. We decide he is not good enough and sell him. He plays in a relegated side, 72 goals conceded and counting, and we decide to buy him back?
Probably not.

The irony is that Caulker will probably end up having a long and successful career in the PL, but only if he's in a well-disciplined team that plays to its strengths. (The best recent example of this was Titus Bramble's transformation from laughing-stock to an outstanding centre back at Steve Bruce's Wigan.)
The way things are at the moment, Caulker would be as much a disaster at Spurs as he's been at Cardiff.

You're right that major strengthening is required, yet we need to do it without is costing the Earth and without the wholesale upset of bringing in 7 new players caused last summer. For that reason, I think it's more likely Kaboul will get a short-term contract that might have clauses related to his availability (if long-term injury rumours are true) and we'll retain Daws too. These will be our backups and we'll invest in at least 1 decent centre half, perhaps 2 if Verts goes (or maybe an LB that can fill in at CB). I think AVB's theory that we need 4 has been well and truly discredited, we need 5. Too many times this season we've had to rush a recovering defender into service to cover for other injured players.

What we need is a dominant leader type at the back - we already have good individual defenders in Kaboul, Verts and Chiriches. We just need an experienced character to marshal the backline and bully people out of making silly mistakes. I wonder if Rio is worth a punt on a free if Man U don't renew (fitness permitting). Hoping he could have a similar effect as Gallas did in his first 12 months at least. If not him, then maybe try and prize Jagielka away from Everton......

Hes decent on his day ....but he doesn't have them week in week out ...
Also for where we want to be,we need better .....I guess if it was 3mil for him and he was ok with being not first choice then that would be good....but guessing Cardiff would want near 7-9 mil for him :(

When everybody returns we are left with - Lloris, Friedel...Fryers, Rose, Naughton, Vertonghen, Kaboul, Dawson, Chiriches, Walker...Carroll, Holtby, Livermore, Lennon, Bentaleb, Townsend, Chadli, Sandro, Dembele, Paulinho, Eriksen, Siggy, Capoue, Lamela...Adebayor, Soldado, Kane
Surely a good Manager (with a few ins and outs) should be able to compete if he can get the best out of this lot?

Its quite funny that were getting linked with lots of players while we have not yet replaced TS .. I very much doubt FdB has said 9on the quiet) I want Caulker or any of the others weve been linked with lately.. I am not going to get depressed or excited about any players names until FdB or whoever comes to lead us is in place. I could however believe that TS has said ''I want Caulker''
