Buy low, sell high. Moneyball!

I know you're kinda joking but that's not really Moneyball, it's more like applying stockmarket speculation to football players.

Which, I think, is how both Levy and Lewis both made all their money(?).

I know, but it sounds right I always think.

We're certainly not applying the principles of inherent value-based statistical analytics to the players we buy. We just buy cheap, and sell high...

Unless this has happened this morning it is not done yet. I posted on Monday on COYS that this was very close, but the player still hadn't decided what he wanted to do. That was still the case as of last night.

He had plenty of chances and. 3 different managers who had a good look at him and obliviously we're not that impressed .
He seems like a good guy and I hope he can start to show his talent in Germany but it's not our fault it didn't work out for him here

I don't think it's that they "weren't impressed," it's that they each struggled to find a genuine place for him against competition for each respective place. His only genuinely poor stint for us was his first spring at Spurs, in which he lost confidence very quickly. Sherwood even seemed to lament allowing him to go on loan, when he commented on how badly Spurs lacked a passer from deep at some point.

That having been said, I think this is still best for all parties. I know he wanted to make it in the Prem, but they've treated him like the second coming of Christ in Hamburg. He and the guy playing the No 8 spot, Arslan, are playing so well together atm that the coach is now going to struggle finding a place for Rafa after his return from injury. I love Holtby's style and have thoroughly enjoyed watching him feature so prominently at HSV, but that's a solid income for one of our fringe players, and especially one on a fat salary. Even having his salary off the books immediately is a considerable amount of finding freed up for January if need be.

Fair point but we do seem very often to buy seemingly cheap players who play in positions which we are saturated in, play them out of position here and there then sell them on after a couple of years of obscurity for a very tiny profit.
