Anything less than top 4 and LVG should be sacked. Their current squad costs more than City's yet they are light years behind City and Chelsea.

They aren't really that far off from having a top quality team again, to be fair. A few defenders and a centre mid or two and they'll be laughing. I'm sure LVG knows this and has probably highlighted a few replacements, and like our own manager has created a little culling list of deadwood. They need time to sort shit out like we do, but their saving grace is that they have players like RVP, Di Maria, De Gea, Falcao, Rooney and Mata already in the squad.

You say that but they are playing shit at the moment because of RVP, Falcao, Rooney and Mata.

None of them are providing any balance, if they got rid of two the team would be so much better for it

Yeah, it's a fair point, he's trying to keep them all happy by cramming them all in. They'll have European football next year so he'll need two sides. I think it'll click into place for them in time.

I think its still a long way to go and they will have for the first time this season they will play 2 games a week

Wow! Just seen the Van Gaal press conference and how he's just defended their 'long ball' tactics against wet spam....hilarious!

"We aren't a long ball team. If you look at the stats you'll see our total long passes was nearly double that of West Ham's, that 24.2% of all our passes were long compared to West Ham's 22.5% and that 41 of our long passes were directed forwards compared to West Ham's 32. I simply cannot see how you can say we are a long ball team."

- may or may not have been said by Louis van Gaal

If LVG had added the word 'FACT' a few times into that conference then we'd have had a contender to Rafa Benitez's rantings.

For what it's worth, the diagram doesn't surprise me. I was watching that game and Rooney spent almost all his time showing what wonderful floated crossfield balls he could play with no real impact on the game at all.

It was like watching Huddlestone at Spurs.

He needs a crash course in British journalists, they might sit and believe his nonsense in Europe but they have a field day with this

Van Gaal just looks petty. Amazed he rose to the bait. The stats aren't even really in his favour.

He's genuinely starting to look like he might turn out to be a colossal failure.

Bit early to say that. If they finish 3rd this year that's a good result for them, and I can't really see them not finishing 3rd to be honest.

Obviously this sort of buffoonery is entertaining, but I doubt it has any impact on anyone other than the media.

If he fails it will probably mean Utd finishing 5th as their aim was only really top 4 this season.

You might be right - but I suspect Arsenal will get third. Their run in now is easy. Man U are genuinely playing terribly. It is conceivable they will miss the top four - if they do after £200m spent then he is toast.

Every manager should now comment on their long ball game before and after every match as if it is a fact. See if they can really mess with his head!

Would be tremendous if every time a United player touched the ball in the next few games if the fans just shouted 'hoof!'

Reckon Sean Dyche should conduct an interview about his tactics for tomorrow, with a cannon launching balls 100m into a crowded box with a small tree in the middle to represent Fellani.
