As far as I've ever watched football the Charity Shield or Community Shield was never taken seriously and was always called a glorified friendly, only 2 teams are able take part in the competition so no idea why people are trying to change things now. It just feeds into this generations twisted ideology of what counts as 'success'.

a match is played at the national stadium, a trophy presented, champagne quaffed; yes it's a title.

Half the preseason tournaments give out a trophy nowadays so that's no measure of whether it's a proper title or not. The CS definitely doesn't count IMO. If Pep want's to count it then that's up to him, but I suspect very few people will ever see it as anything more than a preseason game.

There's a great discussion on this weeks Fighting Cock podcast about the City fans and Pep's comments/rally call, which was:

“I want to see that they want to get to the semi-finals, not just the players, the fans too,” said the City manager. “I want to see that. Do it for the guys – the last 20 months, they are so proud with what they have done, but they are human beings. They will have bad moments in the games and at that moment we need our supporters. At this stage, without supporters, we cannot go through. I’m really curious how our fans will be.”

They were discussing on the pod the various factors as to why City might be struggling to create an atmosphere:

1. The old skol fans still have the nervousness that we have and expect things to go wrong
2. The new fans except to win every game
3. They're fighting on four fronts which is a lot of games to attend, there's not only the financial aspect to consider but some fatique in watching so many games.

If we can frustrate City on the pitch I think they'll feel it from the stands as well.

Even though they are the richest Club on the Planet they are charging ridiculous ticket prices up there, stopping the working man from being able to go. They'd be full houses every week if they reduced the ticket prices to reflect the working mans wage there & it's not like they need the revenue to survive is it.

They want maximum ticket revenue to go towards their FFP figures. Fuck the real fans and fill the place up with rich plastic ones.

I agree, but that’s every football club. They are all the same.

I say fuck their fans, they saved money when they were shit then as they never got to so many finals, now they are good they just have to put up with it.

All football tickets are too expensive, those successful clubs’ fans moaning about it have no sympathy from me. They should try being a spurs fan and paying our prices whilst not having any success!

My stance on City has changed after last night. I still despise their owners, their ethos and their plastic fans but I'm 110% behind them winning the League, not least because I can't bear the thought of Liverpool winning it.

Let's face it, they battered us last night and we had a Ref who made some incredible decisions under the circumstances. That doesn't happen very often. If they can beat the dippers to the title I'll be quite happy for them, but normal service will be resumed a millisecond after the final whistle.
