To be fair to Klopp, a lot us would have expected Pochettino to do the same thing under the circumstances. They have a fantastic chance of winning the league and they are still in the Champions League, a competition they reached the final of last season. At this early stage of the competition the F.A. Cup will have barely factored in their list of priorities. It could of course badly backfire on them in a few weeks time if they go out for the Champions League and lose their lead in the table. As things stand though I think it's hard to criticise him for saving his key players for bigger challenges ahead.

If they are as good as they pretend to be then they should be able to handle an extra cup game.

Well it would be an extra 5 games (after last night's) for them to win it. But I don't think it's just the fact it's extra games that's the problem. It's just that Klopp will have seen last night's match as being less important than Saturday's league match against Brighton and selected his team accordingly. We ourselves were able to make 8 changes to our starting line up against Tranmere albeit we benefited from a much kinder draw.

If Liverpool are deliberately not going all out to win a particular trophy then they selectively bottling it.

Their fans who travelled through all that wind to get to the game also deserved a better deal, paying good moolah
only to see a shadow team who were trying their best but not up to the job, that's not right in my opinion.
Way out of line.

Yes and no. The big clubs (and even smaller ones to be honest) have been fielding B teams in the early rounds of cup competitions for decades now. When you buy a ticket to a 3rd round game I think the majority of fans know (or at least should know) that they're not buying a ticket to see the full first 11 play and the tickets are usually priced cheaper accordingly. If anything it would've been more of a surprise if they'd turned up and Klopp was fielding his strongest team to be honest.

Punters paid the price and so did Liverpool.

However I think most people have a gripe with the double standards and hypocrisy because when Poch did it he got pelters from some in the media and opposition fans (notably Liverpool fans), even though at the time we clearly didn't have the squad to compete on all fronts and were actually pushing for the title too. Not too mention that we are continuously dismissed for having no depth yet need to win one of these trophies, whereas Liverpool (who I don't think have better depth than us, just better luck with injuries) are right to prioritise yet have the depth to handle it apparently.

Oh I'm definitely with you on this. I'm not defending the Liverpool fans or the idiotic, short sighted comments made by some of the supposed experts at the beginning of the season. The fact we are still challenging on four fronts is fantastic and a real testament to the strength of the squad and the work Pochettino and his team are doing there.

And I hope last night's team selection turns out to be a miscalculation by Klopp despite the logic I can see in his decision.

But my point is I don't think any Liverpool fans have much of a cause to complain that they went to the match and didn't get to see the first 11. Like I say that wasn't what they bought a ticket for and they presumably knew that.

Considering how much money they have plowed into their team they should be able to do more in cups. I see where you're coming from and that it may have seemed a genius decision after the season if they win the league, at this point in time I think it's just a lazy excuse for them to make.

If I was Liverpool boss, I would put all my eggs into one basket - the Premier League title.
This is their best chance of winning it since Gerard's slip and is surely the most coveted prize of all?

Don't see what he did wrong. He gambled and on this occasion lost. But "not winning the FA Cup" is something I can live with if my team is in with a real shout at winning the league.

They aren't in the league Cup anymore either so both us and City will be playing catch up fixtures wise, a huge positive for Liverpool

That's your point and you are quite entitled to it. That's how forums work, mostly.

In pub.

Anyways had my first "we're concentrating on the league" from Scouse.

Me..." Ah yes the league. Make mine a pint of Thatcher's Gold Arsewipe."

Vacant expression quickly replaces the smug gurning features that usually form his cartoon-like squished face.

Me..." You remember that pint bet we had that Liverpool wouldn't remain unbeaten in the league this season."

Scouse..." stop going on."

That's alright you twat. He's just gone for a widdle and I've swapped today's racing pages for yesterday's.

He far too Fecked in the swede to notice this. I'm now in feckin stitches watching the numpty fill out his 5p bets.

Enjoy your wasted walk 'our kid'...Oh, best wrap up warm, bit windy out.

If they don’t beat Brighton then he’s going to look a right idiot. Let’s wait and see the reaction of the media towards Klopp and Liverpool if that happens at the weekend. Lots of teams would get criticism for last night.

Absolutely - just because they rested a load of players doesn't mean they'll definitely beat Brighton but if they don't I'm sure Klopp will come in for plenty of stick.

Is it just me or do many football 'corespondents" have their own agenda (not so) hidden in most articles they write ? I mean supposedly they write unbiased & neutral pieces based on what actually took place. it seems to me many of them each support their own teams and write their articles accordingly (ie excuse their teams failings and undermine their rivals with provocative often inaccurate pieces).
