I hope not. That’s far too close to me for comfort. There’s no sites immediately south of the river anyway. They’ve all been bought up for housing.

They are really fucked. Acquiring land is hard and expensive and the areas around Chelsea, well you know.

cant see how they can build a stadium for less than a billion.
We have been ridiculed by others for a billion pound stadium, despite having no complexities.
In chelseas case either new land or remedial works for trains is going to make it prohibitively expensive. Abramovich doesnt have the heart for it.
If i were them i'd buy wembley, and mod it. Its got to be cheaper than any other option.

If they leave they’ll have to give up the name. Don’t see that happening

But their fans are from South London - that would be a long journey for them.

If they want a cheaper option, then follow one of lines south that feed Victoria.
Crystal Palace has good rail and bus links. Or further South - perhaps Croydon - again good transport links. Or Gatwick. I've heard land is cheap in Normandy...

I can't believe their fans were booing the manager in a European semifinal. Well I can, because it's Chelsea, but you know what I mean.

And remember that our "billion" was spread over 10 years of preparations...

Only if he also signs a new contract, which he appears to have no intention of doing.

He'll leave for big money now or on a free next summer. The former is a lot more likely.

Sarri has already been making noises that Hazard is leaving

It was in the Evening Standard 5 or 6 weeks ago (although I'm having problems finding the quotes online)

Very much doubt that will happen, the fans own the lease hold on the pitch

How does that affect them if they're building the stadium elsewhere though? It's not like they're going to literally cut the pitch out and move it to the new stadium is it. I suppose it means they couldn't build flats or something over the pitch, but they could build flats on the surrounding land/where the stands are etc. and the pitch would just be almost like a communal garden for the residents or whatever. Ultimately once the stadium has gone there's no real benefit to the fans insisting that the pitch remains a pitch so they may as well cash in and make some money too.

What is to stop Abramavich styling up and building flats around the pitch and building a stadium elsewhere?

The "Chelsea Pitch Owners" group owns not just the stadium hold, but also the name and brand of the club. They license the "Chelsea FC" brand to the club, on the condition that they continue to play at Stamford Bridge. Unless 75% of their shareholders vote otherwise - and many are 100% opposed - then if the club moves stadium, they will have to change their name completely. That would hurt them as a business badly enough that the move almost certainly wouldn't be worthwhile. So they're protected against a Stratford or Milton Keynes situation - the club can only leave the Bridge if they can convince the vast majority of fans that it's what needs to happen and that their interests would be protected. Meanwhile, because of the nature of the area, other property owners, and a train line that also carries nuclear waste, any rebuild on the same site like we did would be far more expensive, and involve a minimum of four years (possibly more) playing at Wembley or elsewhere - and again, those shareholders would have to agree to that temporary move (but would probably be more amenable if they were definitely coming back).

Love that Ashley Cole gives a shout out to Chelsea for reaching the EL final. No love for Arsenal what so ever :p

Interesting. Sounds like any new stadium is unlikely to ever happen then.

Watching Chelsea last night. They are going to be knackered next season if Hazard goes and the transfer ban remains. Everything depends on Hazard. If he doesn’t perform they’ve got very little up front.
Could be Tammy Abraham up front next season as they try to qualify for Europa League.
Hazard can do us a favour in Baku by beating Arsenal. Don’t want them making Ch Lge money.

Personally I think it will probably happen eventually. The economics of a new stadium are so good for a big club that even at e.g. double the cost of ours it's still a good idea. The thing is that it'd realistically take close to a decade to complete, especially as their planning permission expires soon I believe so they'll have to start that process again. It sounds like Roman doesn't intend on being around that long now he's banned from working in the UK, so he's unwilling to make the investment - but chances are once he does sell up it'll be to somebody who does see it as a good idea.

I'd forgotten that Moratta only left on a loan deal. I guess he's an option for next season if the ban goes ahead.

They can either buy the fans out or give them the ownership of the new grounds pitch.
Last time the fans voted against selling though.

A terrible option but an option all the same.

That said he can't be much worse than Higuain can he?

Yeah cuz Abramovich lowballed the offer. Owning the freehold and the name is the only leverage these fans have.

Do you wish THST have the same?
